The latest episode of Parenthood kicked off with the Braverman children going rogue. They didn't initially meet their parents' expectations on "Opening Night."

At the school play, Crosby is mortified when Jabar decides that he would prefer a lesser role.  Crosby's disappointment sets the stage for another battle of wills between him and Jasmine, who thinks it's no big deal that Jabar is giving up because of a small case of stage fright. 

After a pep talk from Zeek, Crosby heads home and demands that Jasmine let him have another crack at motivating Jabar, who eventually agrees to take the part - and does well. 

I'm thrilled that Crosby actually asserted himself and it worked out.  It's about time Jasmine takes him seriously as a parent. Isn't he the one who is with Jabar all of the time? They probably have a stronger bond than Jasmine and Jabar have.

By the way: Where did an elementary school get the budget for such an elaborate school play?!?  I counted at least three costume changes and several different sets. I've seen Broadway plays with less pizazz!

Meanwhile, at Adam and Kristina's house, Hattie attempts to sneak out with Alex, only to be caught by her furious parents.  Cue a screaming match on the front lawn.  Later, in a move right out of Super Nanny's book, Adam and Kristina take the drill to Hattie's bedroom door.  Adam then informs her daughter she can have the door back when she regains their trust. 

The drama is far from over, however. Kristina heads to Camille's for a chat and when she discovers that Hattie has already confided in her grandmother, Kristina goes all... well, Kristina.  Camille tries to explain herself, but Kristina storms off. 

Alex takes another approach, heading to Adam's office to have a man-to-man talk with Mr. Braverman.  At least someone is acting like an adult.  After seven or eight more squabbles with her mother, Hattie decides to leave home and shows up at Camille's house with suitcase in hand.  If Hattie moves in with Camille, who will Kristina obsess over all day long?  Oh, right.  Max.

Over at Sarah's, Drew remembers he has $500 worth of Christmas wrapping paper to sell.  Oops, must be all of that beer in the barn with Zeek!  Selling such an item in January proves difficult, so he enlists Sarah's help.  Sarah later reveals that she feels like a bad mother because she cannot buy all of the wrap from Drew herself. Must we hear every week how she thinks she's a failed parent?

The Tearjerker Moment of the Week: I'm sorry to say, my eyes stayed dry this week.  It was a serious episode, but not a very poignant one.  If I had to pick the most emotional moment, it would have to be the man-to-man chat between Adam and Alex.  (And really that's only because every time Peter Krause speaks, I miss Six Feet Under more and more.)
Teardrop Scale:  1.0. Again, dry as a bone.
