According to E! News, the American Idol makeover has begun: Jennifer Hudson is in as a Season 13 judge.

The addition of the Season 3 finalist and 2006 Oscar winner - last seen on Smash Season 2 (below) - is merely the first step in what many outlets are reporting will be a new judging panel, one comprised entirely of Idol alums.

E! also says Kelly Clarkson is very close to a deal and the third spot will fall to either Clay Aiken or Adam Lambert.

In light of Season 12's dismal ratings, it certainly makes sense that producers would shake things up. But is a return of past favorites the answer?
