Gabrielle Union gave BET viewers an idea of what Being Mary Jane is like last night.
The series follows Union's title character through her successful life as a news anchor and is the follow-up to a wildly popular movie-length pilot that aired on the network last summer.
Is it new to see someone who can dominate her professional life and who can't control her personal life? No. Olivia Pope has turned into one of TV's most beloved heroines using this same formula on Scandal.
But Union still makes it work. She excelled in a scene on the premiere between Mary Jane and her ex-lover's wife and she even made questionable moments - such as her actions when a friend overdoses - work through her vulnerability and intensity.
There's definitely potential here.
