On Downton Abbey Season 4 Episode 2 the Crawleys throw a house party that includes entertainment from Dame Nellie Melba and many guests, but the festivities take an unexpected turn.

Edith invites Michael GregsonĀ to the Abbey in the hopes that he may be able to find some common ground with Lord Grantham.

A childhood friend, Anthony Foyle, now Lord Gillingham, is invited and discovers he and Mary have quite a lot in common as adults. It's his hope that she might receive his favors sometime in the future for a dinner together.

Isobel still finds herself down and unable to enjoy life since she no longer believes she is a mother now that Matthew is dead.

With so many people on hand of a different class than Tom is used to visiting with, he believes he doesn't belong at Downton and considers what it would be like if he left for greener pastures.

When the downstairs staff is enjoying a rowdy game of cards, Mrs. Patmore falls ill, and Mr. Bates is none to happy about how people missed her cries for help. Later a similar situation leaves another member of the house with no one to hear their cries.
