One Tree Hill Rewind: All That You Can't Leave Behind...

at .

Though it was still very early on, One Tree Hill Season 1 Episode 5 was the first instance where we saw Lucas and Nathan soften towards each other.

The reason? Dan Scott of course.

These first episodes gave a glimpse of what's to come in the Dan Scott world, but at this point nobody could even imagine how insane it would get.

I have a friend who just started One Tree Hill season 3 and she asked me if Dan was the devil- I said you have no idea. There's a quote where Nathan paraphrases Shakespeare in the final season (yes I wrote it down) that truly reminds me so much of Dan.

People say hell is endless. They say it's our worst nightmare, the face of our darkness. But whatever it is, however it is, I say hell is empty, and all the devils are here.

Nathan

But back to season 1...We see an egotistical, arrogant prick who is just plain ol' mean. That moment when he tells Lucas that he never should have had his last name was deplorable.

Maybe it was being around Haley who is genuinely a good person and not enabling Nathan, that opened his eyes a little. He sees that desperation that Dan has at the Father/Son basketball game and how pathetic he really is.

You've gotta love how Whitey calls him out. And Keith.

Keith: That's right. Big brother. And no matter what you did on that basketball court a lifetime ago, and no matter what you do now, I'll always be your big brother. So guess what, Danny boy? It was my name first. It's Lucas' name now. And there's nothing you can do about it.
Dan: Okay, Keith.
Keith: You know, you can be ashamed of me. And you can be ashamed of Lucas. But what makes you think we're not just as ashamed of you? Huh? Now get out of my shop.

I hated Peyton's storyline. I know she was in pain and I understand, but she expressed it in a way that was dangerous and basically a suicidal gesture. She was so emo dark back in season 1 that it's almost annoying to watch.

Peyton is broody. Although she was never my favorite character, I was glad that her character development went the way of being constructive in her passion for art and music: the concerts, the Friends with Benefit CD, TRIC, Red Bedroom Records, etc.

But that's just my opinion. How about you?

Do you like earlier Peyton or later Peyton?

One Tree Hill Season 1 Episode 5 Quotes

You're not even close. You're not even in the neighborhood close!

Peyton

Deb: You know, there is a chance that Lucas and Nathan could get along if their father encouraged it.
Dan: True. But there's also a chance that hell could freeze over.
