Gossip Girl Rewatch: Gone with the Will

at .  Updated at .

If you were 17 years old and about to inherit a company worth almost a billion dollars, how would you wrap your head around that?

Chuck Bass encountered this situation on Gossip Girl Season 2 Episode 15.

This situation would've been disorienting on its own, but with Jack Bass in the picture things became downright chaotic. Chuck was vulnerable to begin with. He had a terrible relationship with Bart and now he was an orphan. Chuck wanted his inheritance and to get out of there.

Of course, Bart being Bart, he left some stipulations. One of those was bequeathing Bass Industries to Chuck himself. While Chuck initially didn't want anything to do with it and passed it on to an eager Jack...a letter changed his mind.

As did the presence of Blair and Nate, his best friends. Jack may have seemed like the cool uncle but he's also selfish. Blair and Nate made Chuck see that Bart really did believe in him.

Nate: [on Bart's letter] Aren't you curious what it says?
Chuck: I think I can guess. You're a disappointment of a son; I'd die of embarrassment if I hadn't already; why do you wear so much purple?

Yes Chuck really did love his purple...

Naturally Jack was pissed when Chuck decided he wanted to keep the company to himself. Jack is a Bass and it pretty much goes without saying that he has some greedy, shady, and self-serving tendencies. Now this left Jack having to go about things another way in order to wrench back control of Bass Industries.

The Morality Clause.

The mission was easy, get the board members to catch Chuck Bass in an uncompromising position. There's pretty much a daily occurrence. Little did Jack know that this would cause undue harm to Blair. Actually Jack totally knew because he still wanted to hit that.

Regardless, it wasn't the right time for Chuck and Blair. The way Chuck looked at Blair when he said "you aren't my wife" was sad and came off as disgusting. He said the word like it was poisonous.

Blair needed to let Chuck work his family stuff out, but she also needed to let him grow up a little. Or a lot. It's just sad that it went down like that. At least it finally set Chuck on a path to trying to be a to find some success through work.

Elsewhere, Dan was letting the secret of Rufus and Lily's child eat him alive. He pushed Serena away and this time he was the one keeping secrets. Too bad the mean girls were determined to find out his secret. And too bad they can't make any decisions without Blair and decided to run with it themselves. They were purely idiotic.

Nelly: We should at least tell Blair.
Isabel: We can't. Blair's with Chuck. Again.
Penelope: I'm really getting sick of how much time she's spending with him.
Isabel: His dad just died.
Penelope: Yeah, like a month ago.

So now the big secret is out. Serena and Eric share a sibling with Dan and Jenny.

If you were Dan and Serena, would you have immediately broken up?

Serena: Look, I know you've been avoiding me, but my mom called from Boston this morning and I asked her point blank. You have nothing to worry about.
Dan: Worried? Who said anything about being worried? What'd she say?
Serena: That there's nothing going on between her and Rufus.
Dan ... Oh.
