Fox Ends Production on Red Band Society; Freshman Drama Effectively Canceled
Matt Richenthal at . Updated at .Fox has effectively pulled the plug on Red Band Society.
The network announced this week that it will cease production on the heart-warming medical drama (which chronicles the lives of sick teenagers in the pediatric ward) after 13 episodes.
The fall finale is scheduled for next Wednesday, December 3, and it remains unclear when (if ever) the final three episodes will air.
Technically, Fox has simply chosen not to reward Red Band Society with a back order of nine new episodes. It has not announced an official cancelation.
However, the series has struggled to reach four million viewers on a weekly basis and it is not included on Fox’s midseason schedule.
Red Band Society becomes the latest freshman show to go this route.
NBC's Bad Judge and A to Z and Constantine will all finish out their 13-episode opening seasons, though hope for any of them to earn a second season is very slim.
