The Simpsons Season 26 Episode 9 Review: I Won't Be Home For Christmas

at .  Updated at .

Some of the best episodes of The Simpsons are the ones that are both funny and endearing. There is no question that  The Simpsons Season 26 Episode 9 falls into that category.

Who doesn't love a cartoon that can simultaneously make you laugh and pull at your heart strings?

We saw a side of Homer we don't get to see very often. Homer being nice to Flanders? That almost never happens. If he hadn't thrown in the "Stupid Flanders" line I might have thought Homer walked into a parallel universe or something.

Moe is the reason Homer ends up getting home late because he's lonely and always spends Christmas by himself in the bar. Why doesn't he go to the movies? Apparently that's where the rest of the town's sad sacks end up. He could join Keith, Gil, and the crazy cat lady for a concentration camp drama starring Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill.

At least Moe came through for Homer when he explained to Marge that it was really his fault that Homer came home so late. Everyone was on their best behavior. Even Apu couldn't bring himself to take advantage of Homer more than ten times. Remind me never to eat a hot dog at the Kwik-E-Mart!

There have been some seriously strange endings lately and we've seen an awful lot of Kang and Kodos. They keep popping up in these super random moments. At least Homer commented on the randomness of it this time:

What the? This isn't Halloween.

Homer

The scene with Jesus made me laugh mostly because I have a best friend and a nephew who both have to deal with having birthdays close to the holidays. I always make sure to get two separate gifts so they don't feel like they're getting cheated out of a present.

Final thoughts:

  • It was only a matter of time before The Simpsons threw in an "obligatory Frozen reference." I laughed at Homer dressed as Olaf and throwing down the carrot.
  • Lego Simpsons are 90% off! Get yours now!
  • I love Gil. He's one of my favorite minor characters and works so well in small doses.

There have been quite a few Christmas episodes over the years. Where does this one fall in your rankings? What are your thoughts on all the random Kang and Kodos appearances?

Since this was our Christmas episode I'm assuming there won't be another new one for a couple of weeks, but in the mean time you can always watch The Simpsons online and visit The Simpsons quotes page to get your fill.
