Jon Stewart to Depart The Daily Show After 17 Years

at .

By the end of this year, the entire canvas of late night television will have successfully rolled over, as Jon Stewart will step away from The Daily Show after 17 successful, hilarious and insightful years.

Stewart first dropped the news during the taping of The Daily Show on Tuesday and Comedy Central confirmed it in a statement released via Twitter, something that wouldn't have been heard of when the series first aired.

And, let's not forget, it's not been that long since a segment of "Old Man Stewart Shakes His Fist At...Twitter" aired on The Daily Show.

As soon as news of Stewart leaving hit (and tears dried), theorizing about his replacement began, bringing up the success of former correspondent of The Daily Show, John Oliver.

That inevitably leads to discussions about the success his HBO series, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, which is busily breaking all sorts of TV boundaries.

Whether HBO would be willing to let Oliver go or if he'd even consider taking on The Daily Show job will surely be the talk of the town for a while.

What do you think of the latest late night shakeup? Will almost a full year remaining be enough time to say goodbye to Stewart? Who should replace him? Hit the comments!
