It's not too often we get to see Moe outside the bar and thrown into an unfamiliar environment. Seeing him take a job at the power plant (and actually take it seriously) was a little surprising.
The premise of Marge taking the job as a driver for a transportation company seemed promising as well, but unfortunately, The Simpsons Season 26 Episode 14 was at best only mildly funny.
There were a few amusing moments, but none of the jokes really resonated with me. The best part was when my favorite lovable loser Gil thought he was in the cash cab. The poor guy can never catch a break. It was nice of Marge to float him some money anyway, though.
I did enjoy the cool pixilated couch gag that looked like an old Nintendo game. Great job to the animators of that one (and congratulations to the one who had a baby and couldn't be in the photo at the end).
The spoof of the Jetsons theme song was pretty fun too, especially seeing Bender from Futurama thrown in there.
All right, now that I've complimented what I did like, it's time to talk about what didn't work.
Marge's story line didn't really make sense to me. Okay, I understand that if you have to do a job you hate, it's better to get paid for it than it is to not be paid. That much is obvious.
However, taking the job with The Simpsons' version of Uber didn't mean that Marge didn't still have to drive the kids around to all of their lessons and such. All it meant was doing more driving, which she hates, and getting paid for it. Wouldn't it make more sense to get a job she actually likes? I get that this one basically fell into her lap, but still.
I think the best line of the night goes to one of the disgruntled the taxi drivers:
Those smart cars are cutting into our business. We used to get uber amounts of work giving people lifts.Taxi Driver
Those lips were super creepy and they just got worse as the episode continued. I've never actually used Uber, so I'm not sure if those were a spoof of a logo they actually use or not.
I know Moe is not the smartest guy in the world, but what did he expect would happen if he left Homer in charge of the bar? As far as I'm concerned
he was asking for the place to be trashed.
I would have thought those three guys would have no problem drinking through all of Moe's life savings in one night on their own, without the help of ladies' night. If Barney had been there, fuggedaboutit.
What did you guys think? Did you find it funnier than I did? Let me know in the comments.
Don't forget you can watch The Simpsons online any time.
NOTE: The Simpsons Season 26 Episode 15 will be titled The Princess Guide and will air on Sunday, March 1.
