Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 Episode 12 Review: Who You Really Are

at .  Updated at .

What a brilliant way to quickly reveal the history (and purpose) of the Inhumans.

Before losing her memory, Lady Sif tracked a Kree warrior to Earth on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 Episode 12.

Of course, the crap hit the fan when Skye's little secret came out. Now the team knows, and most of them are frightened of her. I think it's inevitable Skye needs another Inhuman to help her through her change.

I loved that this installment kicked off in Portugal. If there's one thing I miss about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 1, it's those International locations. I know we visited Puerto Rico recently, but I'd love those trips to become a thing again.

Lady Sif is always a welcome sight; with or without her memory. Jaimie Alexander just brings that movie star quality to the show and elevates everyone's performance. Besides, the way she knocked that dude several feet in the air was just cool. I will admit, it was a little odd seeing her in civilian clothes.

The team headed to Portugal and caught up with Lady Sif. Coulson proved they had worked together before. How cool was it they used "official" ABC promo pics? Though she doesn’t remember a thing, Skye managed to find Lady Sif’s battle with a stranger on Twitter; of all places.

Coulson: You have no memory of who you are?
Lady Sif: I know I am from Asgard, but I do not remember my home there. You tell me my name is Lady Sif, but why I left Asgard, what brought me here to Midgard, why I wear these hides instead of armor; a mystery.
Coulson: One I'll help you solve. I'm sure a clue will turn up somewhere.

I've got to admit, though I love Eddie McClintock (Pete from Warehouse 13), he seemed too comical to be a Kree Warrior. I don't know, maybe I just kept thinking of Pete, but I had a hard time taking him seriously here. Are you a Warehouse 13 fan? Let me know if you agree in the comments.

Lady Sif had some amusing lines, but my favorite was her reaction to the mention of Thor. "I do not know this word, yet when you say it I want to smile," Sif said. That was cute, plus we got a mention of the God of Thunder; can't beat that.

Liquid nitrogen was discovered at the scene of the battle and Skye mentioned the guy was Willy Wonka gum blue, so our heroes figured out they were dealing with a Kree. That seemed perfect to me, as the Kree tie in organically with the Inhumans.

Of course, during Skye's little run in with the Kree the room began to quake.

Skye: The whole room was shaking. Fitz, the gun in my hand exploded.
Fitz: Aw God.
Skye: I thought that I could handle it, but I can't it's too much. I think we need to tell Coulson what's happening.
Fitz: Hang on, wait until I've analyze...
Skye: I can't control it when I get upset or nervous.
Fitz: I'm running that diagnostic on your blood samples right now. Hopefully when it's done we'll have a solution.

I didn't realize Chaves, Portugal, was the site of Whitehall's dig back in 1945, where he found the first Obelisk. Don't you just love how these little details resurface and the whole MCU is connected? Skye calling the Kree Blue Man Group was hilarious, she was definitely on a roll this week.

Coulson and his team located Kree-Pete in no time and we learned his name was Vin-Tak. In the waffle room, Vin-Tak told the team he was there to help and would return Lady Sif's memory as a gesture of good will.

Here's where things got really interesting with the mention of Terragenesis, the Terrigen Crystals and more.

Vin-Tak: Asgardian, well that explains a lot.
Lady Sif: It is true, we do not trust Kree. That is why I am here. When Heimdall saw that one landed on your world, Odin charged me with retrieving him.
Vin-Tak: So you came to pick a fight.
Lady Sif: We know enough about Kree history to be concerned.
Vin-Tak: Well then if you know Kree history perhaps you've heard the tale of Terragenesis?
Lady Sif: Of course, ancient Kree descending on planets altering the inhabitants to fight their war.
Vin-Tak: And Earth was one of them.
Skye: Blue angels who fell from the sky.
Lady Sif: Eons ago the Kree waged a very long war. Casualties were high and they needed more soldiers.
Agent May: You mean cannon fodder.
Vin-Tak: We needed killers. One vicious faction among the Kree genetically modified other creatures' DNA. These modifications can be activated with Terrigen Crystals.
Lady Sif: We know these torturous experiments failed.
Vin-Tak: Not on Earth, here we had to shut them down. This faction had built a city. They brought with them the Diviners, which hold the crystals. Their plans were discovered and thwarted by the better of my kind. Putting an end to that dark chapter of our past.
Skye: Until now.

Skye's face when Vin-Tak described the Inhumans as abominations was priceless. When Coulson and May mentioned Raina's transformation, I knew all eyes would fall on Skye. Hell, that would make me nervous, too. Only in my case the room wouldn't start to shake. Secret’s out… DAMN!

“Skye, you want to talk to us?” May asked. “Skye what’s doing this?” Coulson questioned her. “I am” Skye replied. BOOM... the windows blew out.

I'm glad it didn't take three or four episodes for Skye's secret to be discovered. Had the pacing of the first season continued, this episode might be the penultimate of the season.

In the end May locked the two of them in Ward's old cell and Skye knocked herself out. By the way, is anyone else missing our favorite baddie? Lady Sif agreed to leave Skye in the care of her friends and took Vin-Tak back to his home world. I loved seeing her in her Asgardian armor. The bi-frost effect looked pretty amazing, too.

Overall, this was another great episode with tons of revelations about the Inhumans. The B-Story with Bobbi and Mack remains a mystery, but I'm sure we'll learn more soon. After all, Mack knocked Hunter out in the final moments.

What did you think of "Who You Really Are"? Did you enjoy seeing Lady Sif again? Was the Inhumans history interesting? Can Coulson and May help Skye, or will they be forced to turn to other Inhumans for help? Why is Simmons so angry lately?
