There were so many brilliant moments in the penultimate installment of 12 Monkeys Season 1. 

However, I've got to say that Cole meeting a younger Jones in 2015 was not only my favorite scene in 12 Monkeys Season 1 Episode 12, but probably of the entire first season so far. Everything just clicked into place and I fell head over heels for Jones.

The glass of milk/bullet flashes were revealed and we met some strange new characters at the end of the hour.

Hearing Jones say that Cole was just a memory at the top was chilling. Yet, we now realize she knew all along exactly what was going down in 2015 because she lived it. This also explains how she knew he was the right Cole the moment she met him in 2041.

Having lost their tether means they can't bring Cole home. What does this mean as far as the finale? Any guesses 12 Monkeys theorists?

The moment young Jones appeared in 2015, I knew Cassie would turn to her to save Cole. Still, watching the events unfold was just amazing.

Cassie: Katerina Jones?
Jones: Do I know you?
Cassie: My name is Dr. Cassandra Railly. I need your help. We have a mutual friend who is very sick, maybe dying.
Jones: Who?
Cassie: Cole, James Cole.
Jones: You are probably looking for my mother. I am not this kind of a doctor, I'm a physicist.
Cassie: Please listen to me, we need to talk.
Jones: Maybe you call my office in the morning.
Cassie: There is no time. If you don't help me Cole will die, and I won't let that happen.

After several episodes wondering what Cole's visions about the glass of milk and bullet were all about, we finally got some answers. I've said this many times, but the writing on this series is exceptional. So many little mysteries were resolved this week, while a whole new set of questions were introduced.

When Cole went into cardiac arrest, I thought Aaron was going to let him die. The guy proved me wrong though, which made his betrayal later all the more awful. Sure he turned to Olivia, but he thought he was doing right by Cassie. Poor Aaron, he was just trying to save her from herself.

Aha, so it was Jones' address on the note Cassie gave Cole in 2017. Again, their 2015 meeting gave me goosebumps, it was one of the best moments of the series so far. Cole putting two and two together and realizing Jones knew him all along was profound.

Jones pointing out that Cole was more than just a friend to Cassie was also great. Though we haven't seen those two missing years yet, we now know he's stuck in 2015. The conversation about the watch paradox set the big plan in motion.

Jones: How'd you meet him?
Cassie: I told you. They found a recording that I make and the future you sent him here to find me.
Jones: And you believed his story?
Cassie: No, he brought my watch with him from the future and he broke time.
Jones: The same watch from his time?
Cassie: Yes.
Jones: That's profoundly risky.
Cassie: I know, it caused a paradox. It almost killed us.
Jones: Yeah, mother nature doesn't like it if you rearrange the furniture.
Cassie: Right.
Jones: That must have been extraordinary to see; matter coming in contact with itself.

And what a great plan, right? Jones would cure Cole by introducing his younger DNA. "A paradox to save his life?" Cassie asked. I loved everything about this turn of events, and even though I had a feeling we would meet a younger Cole, I never guessed the actual plan.

Back in 2043, the Project Splinter team worked to rebuild their wall. I didn't realize how much I'd miss that messy board until Ramse set it ablaze. Anyway, this led to Jennifer's hostile takeover of Markridge. Emily Hampshire has definitely made the most of her role as Jennifer Goines. It's the role of a lifetime for her; she's absolutely incredible.

We learned more about Hannah this week, including the fact Jones almost terminated her pregnancy. Her husband didn't succumb to the virus; he left her. Did he leave her for another woman or was it something else?

The dynamic duo tracked down Cole's father and met kid Cole (sounds like a rapper name). Another great moment! So Cole's mother, Marion, knew about the 12 Monkeys; very interesting. Why couldn't his mother protect him? Was the Army of the 12 Monkeys after her?

Cassie: Cole, there's someone here to see you.
Cole: Huh?
Matthew: James?
Cole: Dad?

In 2043, red English ivy began appearing on the time travel chair. Red Forest activity for sure people! Dr. Adler theorized that the plant was not from their time. Where the heck is it coming from then? Will we find out in the season finale?

Jones had Cassie withdraw some blood from kid Cole. Again, the headache kicked in when future Cole came too close to his younger self. All these episodes later, I'm still wondering if that's also what happened when Cole approached the "Origin" remains.

The moment Cole and his father shared was incredibly touching, and I had a bad feeling the old man wasn't going to make it. Of course, Aaron gave them up and the Pallid Man killed Matthew Cole causing that traumatizing memory with the glass of milk/bullet. Watching it all play out in slow motion was very effective. Well, that's one of the show's mysteries put to bed.

I was curious to see what the result of injecting himself with his young DNA would look like. Boy, did the moment deliver, causing Cole to float in the air and blow the bejesus out of the bookstore. Great VFX work too! We learned from Jones that the paradox destroyed Cole's ability to travel back to 2043. Again, now we know why he lived out those two missing years with Cassie.

Okay, so who were those hooded guys in the final scene? Any theories? Nice to see Deacon back, though he's out to cause some serious trouble.
