Rookie Blue Season 6 Episode 2 Review: Perfect Family

at .  Updated at .

There is no such thing as a “Perfect Family” but some are definitely less perfect than others. The Hill family in Rookie Blue Season 6 Episode 2 shouldn’t even have the word perfect in their vocabulary.

When Lloyd, the father started to freak out over the type of shirt his daughter was last seen wearing, I figured 16-year-old Hayley had probably run away to escape.

What I never expected was that he’d made his kids watch while he poisoned their dog or forced his daughter to sleep in a house of horrors style garage complete with freezer large enough to store a body.

Where most teens might be worried about getting grounded or losing their cell phone privileges, Hayley was panicked about being murdered and her body frozen. That’s a little beyond dysfunctional.

I couldn’t believe the mother let all of this happen, until she revealed that her own parents signed her over to Lloyd when she was only 16-years-old, but as Andy pointed out, it was time for her to stand up and take control of her own family. Unfortunately, that family now included a sociopathic son who attempted to murder his own sister.

The one upside to it all was that Andy went from considering walking away from Sam to deciding she was all in no matter what, as she relayed to him in this Rookie Blue quote

Just because this isn't what I pictured, that doesn't mean I fold. I love you and I will show up and we will figure this out. I promise you there is not going to be a day where that child does not feel wanted or loved by me.

Andy

These two have some of their best conversations in Sam’s truck and this one, ending with their kiss, made my heart soar. No matter what type of family they end up with, they’ll make it as perfect as it can be, and they will do it together.

Elsewhere in 15 Division, Dov and Marlo uncovered a connection to the Evidence Room bombing that led them right back to the police department. All the clues seem to point to this somehow being an inside job but, who would risk all of those lives and why?

Duncan continued to look like an idiot as even Chloe needed to chastise him. Nick and Juliet were partnered for the day with very little drama, and Chris decided to take one for the team by continuing to sleep with Jarvis’ wife. I actually can’t wait for this to blow up in Chris’ face. Sometimes I think he’s even more of an idiot than Duncan.

With so much focus on the not so perfect family, we didn’t hear any more about the Balcony Predator, and I hope we see more of that investigation soon. Other than that, it’s hard to complain about an episode that ends with a McSwarek kiss and a commitment to their future.
