The prospect of playing noted (real life) serial killer Aileen Wuornos couldn't keep Lily Rabe away from American Horror Story: Hotel!
The role, which is one Charlize Theoron played to perfection in the movie Monster, earning her an Oscar, excited Ryan Murphy so much he decided to step behind the camera, as well.
"I'm directing it because I love the script so much, when we finished it I said, 'I can't give this to anybody else.' Lily Rabe is coming to that episode," creator Ryan Murphy told the L.A. Times. "And she's playing Aileen Wuornos, which is really fun and bizarre."
One of the few known serial killers in history, Wuornos killed seven men between 1989-1990, claiming a position of self defense as a result of continued assaults against her. Her defense was rejected and she was put to death by lethal injection in October 2002.
Rabe and the Wuornos storyline will be a part of the Halloween episodes of American Horror Story: Hotel.
In addition to American Horror Story Season 5, you'll recognize Rabe from other seasons, as well. She appeared as Nora Montgomery in American Horror Story Season 1, Mystery House; as Sister Mary Eunice McKee in American Horror Story Season 2, Asylum; and as Misty Day in American Horror Story Season 3, Coven.
Rabe joins other stars for Hotel, including Lady Gaga, her love interest for the season, Angela Bassett, Matt Bomer, Sarah Paulsen, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Chloe Sevigny, Wes Bentley, Cheyenne Jackson and Finn Wittrock.
