Bill Masters is many things, but a control freak may be at the top of the list.

On Masters of Sex Season 3 Episode 9, Bill continued to work on the surrogacy program despite Virginia's objections. More importantly, Bill fixated on Virginia's relationship status with Daniel.

Sadly for Bill, Daniel may be sticking around for a while.

Bill could feel Virginia slipping away, and with good reason. Virginia's connection with Daniel is so strong that she was willing to come up with a new version of the scent experiment to keep him around.

Virginia's feelings couldn't be any clearer than during her sex scenes. First there was Bill in a puddle of desperation begging her for the intimacy he's been craving with her.

Virginia didn't appear to be enjoying herself when in bed with Bill. She clearly pretended to make Bill feel better.

Then there was her sex scene with Daniel that was intercut with scenes of them conducting their research. Her responses were completely different than when she was with Bill. Virginia and Daniel are equally passionate with each other.

Bill's unraveling will only continue if Daniel sticks around for the long haul. It's unclear what Bill would do should that happen, but it won't be good. Virginia is obviously aware of Bill's fragility or else she wouldn't be denying her relationship with Daniel.

As much as I liked to see Bill squirm because it provided some hilarious moments with Betty, Virginia should come clean with him. It'll be harder to keep Bill in the dark as time goes on.

Even though I doubt he will be around for good, I'd like to see Daniel stay with Virginia. She always seems more at ease when he's around. She allows herself to be happy. It's rare to see her that way with Bill.

I'm also proud of Libby for trying to find happiness with Paul. Grief and loneliness may have brought them together, but it's not what keeps drawing them to each other.

I hope Libby's conversation with Bill helps her see that she deserves more out of a marriage.

Libby: If you were dying and you had one final moment to look back at your whole life, at the things that mattered the most to you, what would you say about our marriage?
Bill: That we tried our best. Both of us gave our very best.

Maybe giving into her feelings for Paul will finally be the catalyst for Libby to divorce Bill. She deserves more than a husband who just did his best.

Elsewhere in the episode we had Austin show up to Betty and Helen's apartment in a drunken stupor. Austin was rightly upset at losing custody of his children, but he acts more like a child than a grown man most of the time. I couldn't help but laugh when he woke Betty up saying he couldn't sleep and threw up.

It should be interesting to see what kind of arrangement the three of them come up with now that Helen is pregnant. Will the three of them live together? I'd like to see that spin-off!

Leftover thoughts

Where is the storyline going with Johnny? I get we are supposed to see how neglected he feels by Bill, but does that mean he's now going to turn into a bully?
Is Nora going to make a move on Bill? She shared her abusive relationship with her father with Bill, and he comes from a similar background. Will that draw them closer together?
