Scandal Round Table: Gladiators to the Rescue!

at .

Olivia Pope's gladiators, led by Marcus Walker, rode to her rescue on Scandal Season 5 Episode 4.

Walker decided he couldn't sit by and do nothing as he watched her career being ripped apart in the media, earning himself a spot on the team and Olivia's approval.

Then Fitz, her knight in shining armor, rode an elevator. Straight up to her apartment. BOOM! Get the full Scandal Round Table reaction below and then sound off in the comments with your own answers!

What was your favorite moment during "Dog-Whistle Politics?"

Whitney: Fitz and Mellie playing with their son was a nice moment for both of them. For starters, I tend to forget Teddy exists and with all their constant arguing, I also forget that they're parents. I like when these two can find common ground and just have a shred of compassion for one another.

Jim: I loved Quinn recruiting Marcus... I'd have to go back to the pilot to confirm, but it had to be nearly word for word what Harrison said to Quinn when he recruited her. Was a nice "student becomes the master" moment.

Miranda: Jim, if her words to him weren't verbatim, they were close! The Scandal quotes page probably has the answers! I loved Marcus joining the team and have thought he'd make a great fit since we first met him. He's the proverbial breath of fresh air OPA needs. It doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eyes. Honorable mention goes to Huck on the news just saying "dog-whistle politics" over and over again.

Marcus Walker is part of the team. React:

Whitney: When I heard that character was coming back full time, I wasn't sure in what capacity, but now it makes perfect sense that he would become a gladiator. He's a great talker and with Liv incapacitated at the moment, OPA needs someone like Marcus out front to keep their business afloat. I'd hire him to fix something.

Jim: I think that OPA will do well with Marcus around. They've needed someone to help keep them on the path, and as Whitney pointed out, with Liv being burnt at the moment, he's the man for the job.

Miranda: It's perfect! He's an excellent addition to the team, and I like that he's not yet jaded by what it is they do. He doesn't enjoy hurting people and loves the truth. This is going to be great.

Jake was married once upon a time. React (again!):

Whitney: I really didn't see that coming. Jake never seemed the marrying type to me. I wouldn't mind Jake getting a distraction from Olivia, because that ship has truly sailed away.

Jim: Was it a real marriage or was it part of a cover? Besides, I don't trust Elise. Seemed convenient that the cameras went out and then she "had" to shoot the guy who was their only lead. How awesome would it be if Elise turned out to be the new B-613?

Miranda: I didn't see it coming, but I was pleasantly surprised by the shock. I definitely like the way you're thinking, Jim, that she's the new B-613, perhaps even the operative Rowan was working with from inside prison, maybe through Maya Pope. Whether it was real for her, it seemed like it was a real marriage for Jake. I really don't want to see him keep falling for unavailable women, but that seems to be his thing.

Was Fitz' decision to go to Liv the "right" one?

Whitney: It wasn't the wrong one. Knowing how bad Olivia was suffering, Fitz wanted to do something for the woman he loves and you can't really call that a bad decision. Might it cause more harm than good in the end? Maybe. But it was a very pivotal moment in the new relationship these two have forged.

Jim:  Only time will really tell if it was the right choice or not. But, taking her on a date as his G/F seems like a fairly smart move. Besides, given that Fitz was willing to resign to be with Liv, I feel pretty sure he isn't that worried about being impeached. Hopefully it won't go that way for him.

Miranda: I am so torn on this. She was absolutely giddy at the thought that he was in the elevator coming for her, but this has disaster written all over it. So it was the right one for them, but I'm thinking this was a terrible idea in general.

Who is Rowan's outside man?

Whitney: I'm really not sure, but I'm going to assume it's someone we've met before.

Jim: I'm actually of the mind that Rowan isn't pulling the strings and Elise is the one doing the manipulations, but I could be wrong and she could be Rowan's puppet.

Miranda: My money's on Maya Pope. He might have imprisoned her for twenty-some years, but he understands an asset when he sees one. I wouldn't be surprised to learn he's found a way to work with her.

How will Abby manage Fitz's impeachment?

Whitney: I think Abby will keep with the trend of doing what Olivia would do. What that entails exactly, I'm not entirely sure but she's going to put up a big fight.

Jim: I think we are going to continue to see Fitz and Abby discussing what would Liv do, then going with a combination of that and "what would Fitz do". As mentioned above, he's always said he was less worried about his job than losing her. Guess we we may get to find it if that is true.

Miranda: What I really hope we see is ABBY managing the impeachment proceedings and not Olivia pulling all the strings and using Abby as a mouthpiece. Aside from that, I don't even know how one WOULD manage impeachment proceedings as it's something I've only seen happen once in my life and I was way more interested in high school politics than real-world at the time.

Scandal Season 5 Episode 4 Quotes

Quinn: Olivia Pope and Associates needs a mouthpiece. You're good with the press. You won't just be some corporate spinner. You'll be one of us. Look, the job is yours if you want it. It's the best job you'll ever have. You will change lives. You will slay dragons. You will love the hunt more than you ever have. I am not crazy. I'm a gladiator in a suit. That's what you are when you work at OPA. You're a gladiator in a suit. Do you want to be a gladiator in a suit?
Marcus: No.

Quinn: You're broke, Marcus. You're unemployed because you screwed the mayor's wife. You're damaged goods, but you're charming and attractive and you can drive a narrative. Plus, you know, stray dogs...
Marcus: Okay, now I see. You're crazy. You one of those crazy chicks?
Quinn: I'm offering you a job.
