Blindspot Season 1 Episode 17 Review: Mans Telepathic Loyal Lookouts

Patterson was all over Blindspot Season 1 Episode 17 making it my favorite episode of the season so far. Yes, we should all love episodes that have us learning more about Jane, but come on, this episode was fantastic.

Weller, Jane and the rest of the team were barely in the first 30-40 minutes, and I didn't notice at all. Ashley Johnson killed this episode. She was funny, engaging and that last scene broke me.

The scenes between Ghost David and Patterson were great, and they made me really miss him. He was perfect for Patterson. He freaking created a scavenger hunt just for her. Now, that hunt did lead to her almost getting killed, but that's just schematics. This was the perfect gift for Patterson

Let's talk about that last scene for a little. For the entire episode before that point, she was having very easy, fun conversations with David, even in the scenes where she could have died. But then it got to the point where Patterson needed to let David go.

Patterson obviously was still holding onto him, and this hunt was a great way for her to get closure. However, with closure comes the need to close or end something, and in this case, that was Patterson thinking she would never fall in love again.

She will, but she needed to come to that realization on her own (with the assist from Ghost David).

David: I'm going to go.
Patterson: I don't want you to.
David: I know but I'm already gone.
Patterson: Goodbye David.

While this episode was all about Patterson, there were some non-FBI developments for the other agents. Some interesting and others not. Let's get to the interesting ones.

Zapata apparently did help the ADA who is looking into Carter's death, but he wants more from her. Mayfair and the bureau are now his targets, and once again he threatens that if Zapata doesn't help him, he will arrest her.

Can someone, anyone explain to me why, after everything that has happened to Zapata because of her gambling, she would start again?

Her life has been threatened, she almost quit her job and is now being blackmailed to work against her own team. Yet, she immediately went back to gambling after what seemed like weeks (maybe even months) without doing it.

I call for a lot of flashbacks in regards to Jane but one needs to happen that explains why Zapata is addicted to gambling.

We got our first glimpse at Mayfair out in the real world, and she was flirting with a lady. It was awesome seeing Mayfair outside of the office seemingly relaxed. More of this please! Please don't let this lady be some trap or enemy.

Reade told Mayfair the truth about the threats he's been receiving. Mayfair believes him but doesn't understand the threats because nothing came out of the footage she got from the traffic camera people.

She's right, they don't know that it's Oscar driving the car, so why is someone trying so hard to stop them? Something more will definitely coming out of this soon.

A quick rundown of the other not as interesting developments:

  • Jane spent most of the day with Oscar and then slept with him again. Why is she drawn to him? He's definitely attractive, but she spent many episodes saying how much she doesn't trust him. And now she can't seem to keep her hands off him. Strange.
  • Weller is still seeing the US Marshall, and they are officially the most boring couple on TV. Honestly, they need to break up, and it looks like Blindspot Season 1 Episode 18 may gift us that.
  • Am I the only one who has no interest in the Weller family (outside of the Sarah/Reade relationship)? Weller is the male lead of this show, but currently his family life is a huge letdown and kills the pace of every episode.

Once again, this was probably the best episode of the season so far. If you need to re-watch it again, which you definitely should, don't forget that you can watch Blindspot online.

What are you thoughts on this episode? Did you like it as much as me? Let me know in the comments or on twitter.
