The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 18 Review: One Way Or Another

at .  Updated at .

There are theories floating around in my brain after watching The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 18, y'all. And I kind of hope I'm right about one of them.

But then I'm probably not because the more I think about it, the more unlikely it seems when looking toward the possibility that The Vampire Diaries Season 8 is the last.

Grrr.

Did anyone else get the idea that the easy way to prevent Bonnie Bennett from dying for real and staying that way is for Enzo to turn her into a vampire? And then did anyone take it one step further and think about how badass Bonnie Bennett would be as a member of the immortally hot and undead?

Because that?

That would make for an EPIC TVD Season 8.

We know Kat Graham is leaving The Vampire Diaries, so what better way for her to go out than in some weird vampire death which brings Elena back? (Or doesn't. We could leave Elena in her coma and I'd be happy since I think the show is much better without her.)

I mean...it would be great, right? As it stands right now, we're going to watch a season of Bonnie slowly dying from the poison Enzo inadvertently gave her because we know Nina Dobrev won't return until the series finale.

I don't even know where I'm going with this other than I hate that the reason we trotted Bonnie back out is so that we could learn there's a spell only a Bennett witch can perform and also she's going to die. Again.

Props for this line, Bon Bon, because YEP.

So I’m gonna die? Is that what you’re trying to tell me? Because I’ve done it once or twice before and it’s not all that fun.

Bonnie [to Enzo]

It's such a crutch at this point. Why's it always gotta be a Bennett witch?

I am curious about what's inside that vault, though. What can they possibly be hiding in there? Rayna's dad's corpse? Someone else's doppelganger?

I'd say we may never know, but that would be a lie. Of course Bonnie will find a way to open the vault. I hope there's just a bunny inside. Something cute and furry and unassuming and everyone's like "we were scared of THAT?"

I could've done with an entire episode dedicated to Bonnie and Enzo. Enzo finally got a love interest, and Bonnie got a love interest who isn't Jeremy, and I really just want to spend some time seeing them together and learning about the three years they spent getting close.

Ugh.

Elsewhere in this episode, Stefan was reunited with his real body and Ambrose presumably perished in the body of Marty Hammond. After Stefan woke up we never got another mention of the serial killer who had been inhabiting his carcass, so we can only assume "Deputy Matt Donovan" dropped Marty's corpse on the steps of a police station on his way to reunited with Bonnie.

(Where she rage-slammed the door in his face.)

Additionally, Valerie and Stefan broke up, which we all probably also saw coming. It was sort of sadly sweet the way she recognized that while he loved her, he didn't love her quite as much as she loved him. There was nowhere for Valerie and Stefan to go but apart after that realization.

So now we're back to, what, a love triangle? Again? Between Stefan, Caroline, and Alaric?

Bah. Ridiculous.

Let Caroline and Alaric raise the girls. Let Alaric be happy. Caroline and Stefan can have forever.

Unless, like I hoped last week, Alaric and Valerie end up together, and she becomes the twins' Gemini coven mentor (while fervently looking for a workaround for that whole merging thing).

It's just that how can there be any happiness for anyone in this scenario? Literally no one can win here.

Does Caroline leave the girls with Alaric so she can start eternity with Stefan? Do they share custody and Stefan becomes their stepdad? Stefan would never be happy if Caroline left the girls because he would know she did it for him. Caroline would hate herself and eventually Stefan for leaving.

This is all so gross feeling somehow, probably because there are kids involved so it's a little too real-world feeling.

The best scenes for this episode go to Alaric and Damon and their weird not-really-mended friendship. They're not friends, but they're not enemies. Everyone's pissed at Damon for leaving, and rightly so, but even in the midst of not really wanting to be there, there's a certain camaraderie between Damon and Alaric that can't be denied.

It was nice to see them together again, even if only temporarily.

What did you think of "One Way or Another"? Will Enzo find a way to save Bonnie? How does the Alaric/Caroline/Stefan triangle resolve itself? Sound off in the comments below and let's hash this out. Don't forget you can watch The Vampire Diaries online!

The Vampire Diaries Season 7 Episode 19 returns April 22nd.
