Bones Season 11 Episode 17 Review: The Secret in the Service

at .  Updated at .

Even while Brennan was ill, she and Booth still managed to be one hell of a team on Bones Season 11 Episode 17

Have we ever before witnessed Brennan when she’s sick? I can’t honestly remember seeing her like this, and I loved that Booth was willing to let Aubrey take the lead on the case so that he could stay home and take care of his ailing wife.

Of course being out of the lab during a case didn’t make Brennan happy, but thanks to modern technology she was able to view the remains, and Dr. Fisher, from her sofa.

I had all but forgotten Fisher, but I enjoyed having him back, even though I found his first comment to Hodgins extremely odd. Why would Angela possibly joke about Hodgins being paralyzed?

Then again, I suppose Squinterns are always a little strange, even when they’re no longer Squinterns.

At the end, I couldn’t quite figure out if Fisher was feeling inadequate simply because he was working with Dr. Brennan at the Jeffersonian, or if it was because he was working as a college tutor. I’m still not sure.

Hodgins near accident in the laundry shoot almost had me rolling my eyes. Were the techs who set up that pulley system that inept not to test it properly before letting him descend down several stories?

Thankfully, it all made sense when Hodgins spoke to Angela later. This was the first time he felt grateful for his predicament. If he hadn’t been in months of physical therapy because of his paralysis, his upper body never would have been strong enough to hold on.

But even with that revelation, I still won’t be surprised if Hodgins begins looking into that experimental surgery once again before the Bones season 11 is over.

One of the funniest moments was Angela sending her Reiki specialist to help Brennan recover from her illness. Of all people to not believe in something like Reiki, Brennan must be at the top of that list. I’m still not buying that she asked the guy to stay an extra hour.

The case of the week reminded me a bit of a giant game of Clue as the member so the team tried to piece together the bits of evidence.

When Neal took his shot at the President, I couldn’t help but wonder if his shoulder injury scans had been a scam because how else could he have lifted that shovel?

The fact that these were two separate crimes made more sense.

Walker: Booth, I just want you to know, it wasn't protocol. It's just personal.
Booth: You're mixing your words. You should get some sleep.

That Bones quote bothered me for the entire episode. I knew there had to be a reason that Walker was mixing up his words and that it probably wasn’t sleep.

A blood clot in his brain causing him to become paranoid was one of the only reasons that could make a decorated agent murdering his colleague make sense.

I know how much it weighs on you to take another life. Whenever you want to talk about it, I'm here. Always.

Brennan

As much as I wish this show gave us a little more romance between our core couple, no one can doubt how much Booth and Brennan love one another. Besides, romance is a bit difficult when one half of a couple is coughing up sputum, so love and affection will have to do…for now.

Check back in on Monday to see what our Bones round table team has to say and if you can’t wait for more, you watch Bones online here at TV Fanatic.
