Jane the Virgin Season 3 Episode 2 Review: Chapter Forty-Six

at .

With Michael home safe and sound, it was now time for Jane and Rafael to move forward in their relationship... to the friendship phase.

Even though she was busy working out her new dynamic with Rafael on Jane the Virgin Season 3 Episode 2, Jane was still left with her fear over Michael returning to work.

Elsewhere in the episode, Anezka hooked up with Scott (aka Vests), and Xo confessed her abortion to Alba.

Healing Together - Jane the Virgin Season 3 Episode 2

Let's just get this out of the way first: Jane and Michael are finally going to have sex.

Cue the applause and cheering crowd. We may have to wait another week, but it's happening people, it's really happening!

And friends, I'm not messing around this time. They're actually gonna do it. Say goodbye to Jane the virgin.

Narrator

Now that we have that piece of information to look forward to, let's get to rest of the episode.

Recovery can take a while, but it was clear that Jane needed to tell Michael her fear of his returning to work. Her reluctance is totally justified.

However, Michael loves being a cop and it wouldn't be right for him not to see the case to its conclusion. Despite wanting to go back to work, Michael finally had a moment of catharsis when it hit him that he could have died.

I'm glad they were able to both process their feelings together. Their marriage will only get stronger, as long as they remain open and lean on each other for support.

When she wasn't taking care of her husband, Jane was trying navigate the new dynamic between her and Rafael. He is officially over Jane, and this development couldn't have happened at a better time.

With Jane settling into her marriage with Michael, it would be pretty sad and pathetic to watch Rafael pine for her for one more minute.

The truth is when I was in love with you I just wanted to please you. I mean I would wake up every morning and think, "What would Jane want? What would make Jane happy? What would make Jane smile?" And now, I'm kind of like, "So what if Jane's upset." I mean no offense.

Rafael

Now that he's not thinking about getting her back, he no longer has to go along with everything she says. If anything, Rafael probably feels liberated now that he can freely express his opinions.

Communication is vital to Jane and Michael's relationship, but it will be crucial for Jane and Rafael as well. They have to remain a team if they want to be good parents to Mateo.

Compassion Corner - Jane the Virgin Season 3 Episode 2

Jane and Rafael's new dynamic also means we can finally watch them be friends without the prospect of him declaring his feelings for her. I never saw them as a good match romantically, but I'm digging their vibe as friends.

Elsewhere in the episode, Anezka had a surprising romantic connection with Scott... SCOTT! This hookup came as a total surprise, but I found it fairly humorous.

These two teaming up should provide some fun moments, but whatever Scott has on Rafael can't be good. He'll probably be mighty disappointed when he finds out he didn't actually get to sleep with Petra.

Petra can't stand Scott, and the thought of everyone thinking she's sleeping with him is surely driving her inner thoughts mad!

Speaking of mad, Alba's reaction to Xo's abortion was disappointing, but expected. Taking religion out of the equation, Alba has never forgiven herself for telling Xo to get an abortion when she was pregnant with Jane.

Xo and Alba are different women, and that's okay. What matters more is how they react to each other's differences. Alba can't be furious and refuse to talk to her daughter every time she does something she doesn't like.

At the same time, Xo can't storm off every time her mother is angry. Neither woman is perfect, and they need to accept one another's flaws.

Stray Thoughts and Questions

  • Rogelio's attempt at an American accent was hilarious and apparently that means talking like a surfer bro.
  • It's always a joy when the writers are self-aware enough to point out the the show's not so realistic plot points or what the fandom is thinking.

Jane: God, this would be a great moment to have sex.
Michael: I mean, at this point it just seems like a big cosmic joke.

  • Where is the submarine carrying Luisa and Rose? Inquiring minds want to know.
  • Mateo biting was a nice touch to remind us that Jane is still going through typical parental issues.

So over to you! Are you happy Jane is about to finally lose her virginity status? Will Petra free herself before Anezka and Scott take down Rafael? What are your predictions for Jane the Virgin Season 3 Episode 3?

Jane the Virgin Season 3 Episode 2 Quotes

Rafael: So you're a married virgin...
Jane: I am, yes. A married virgin with a one year old son.

The truth is when I was in love with you I just wanted to please you. I mean I would wake up every morning and think, "What would Jane want? What would make Jane happy? What would make Jane smile?" And now, I'm kind of like, "So what if Jane's upset." I mean no offense.
