Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 10 Review: Second Coming

at .

Now that is how you do a season finale!

Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 10 picked up right were we left off last week, with Ash trapped in the cellar with Henrietta, thanks to that weasel Professor Knowby.

I wasn't surprised Henrietta made quick work of Tanya.

Peek-A-Boo! - Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 10

She was an idiot for coming to a secluded cabin with Knowby to begin with.

Knowby ended up getting his comeuppance anyway while attempting to flee in his car.

It was satisfying seeing him get what he deserved, but it still makes me wonder what happened to Knowby in the original timeline.

Henrietta's head and neck transformation was a great tribute to her second form in The Evil Dead II, and Ash eventually getting the upper hand and cutting off the head of that snake was a great end to this skirmish.

Ash vs Evil dead is always finding new ways to disgust me.

The whole breastfeeding scene with Ash and Henrietta was completely revolting and I will not be able to shake that image anytime soon. It's not easy to gross me out, but this show never lets me down.

It was amusing seeing Ruby come in contact with her 80's self. I was wondering if that could have caused a significant rift in the space-time continuum.

It made me think of Back to the Future, and Doc Brown's warning of the ramifications of making contact with one's younger/older self.

Something's up - Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 10

That wasn't the case here, but Ruby did meet her end at the hands of 80's Ruby. Did she basically commit time travel suicide?

It was a nice moment when Ash and Ruby made amends as she was dying. These two may have never liked each other, but there was a mutual respect towards one another in the end.

Ash: So Ruby, does this mean I don't have to pay back the 20 bucks I owe you?
Ruby: It's 200 bucks...

We found out that the future had already been changed when Pablo emerged from the trunk alive and Ash's missing hand was restored. That was pretty cool.

Unfortunately, both reunions were cut short.  Which leads me into the big reveal of the episode.

Baal is alive!

When Pablo was using his power to send Baal back to hell, Baal merely transferred himself into Pablo's body on Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 8.

Initially, I thought maybe this was Baal from the 80's, just like the other Ruby, but apparently Baal used Pablo as a vessel in order to travel back in time with them.

Ash: You mind telling me what the Flying Dutchman is going on?
Baal: We're course correcting. Rebuilding the family you tore apart.

I simply can't get enough of Ash calling Baal "Bill". Cracks me up every time!

It was a nice twist and a shocking reveal as Pablo tore the skin off his face to reveal Baal underneath.

I had vented my disappointment on how Baal was so easily fooled and defeated during Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 8. So, I was very satisfied with this explanation.

Brand spanking new hand, or...brand new 'spanking' hand!

Ash

Ash calling Baal out on fighting him one on one without his powers was a nice way to get Baal to play Ash's game. I figured Baal would once again mislead Ash and ended up retaining his powers.

The fist fight between Ash and Baal was epic, and even though Baal was basically letting Ash beat up on him, it was still fun to see Baal get his ass handed to him.

It was also nice to see Chet, Cheryl and Brock once again, even if they were only illusions by Baal.

Ash finally besting Baal  by distracting him long enough to use his own claw on himself was truly gratifying.

Thanks mostly to 80's Ruby actually fulfilling the incantation to actually strip Baal of his power.

Ash and Henrietta - Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 10

Ruby was destined to turn on Baal all along, regardless of the altered timeline.

I honestly thought maybe 80's Ruby was the good Ruby, and pulled a switcheroo with her doppelganger.

Sadly, that reveal never came and the Ruby we know and love was truly killed off. However, it seems 1982 Ruby returned to present day with Ash and company, and is now at large again.

The cabin getting engulfed in flames and breaking in half, revealing hell below was a great effect.

I actually got chills as the cabin came burning to the ground. It was the perfect bookend to the 30-year history with Ash and the cabin dating back to the original film.

With Baal finally defeated and the cabin destroyed, it really opens up endless possibilities and head into new territory with the Evil Dead franchise.

It was a great way to close out the season and tie up the loose ends, while setting up Ash vs. Evil Dead Season 3.

Ash also finally received the praise and recognition he long yearned for saving the world, in an over the top parade. Good for you Ashy Slashy.

Woman in crowd: We love you Ash!
Ash: Hey, I love me too!

In case you missed it, there was a little post credits scene with someone stumbling upon the Necronomicon in the woods. What comes of that, remains to be seen.

We'll have to wait until the Fall of 2017 to find out the new direction this series will go and how it plans to reinvent itself when it returns.

I will be waiting with open arms when it does. How about you?

What did you think of "Second Coming" and the season as a whole? Were you satisfied with the conclusion of the longstanding Cabin arc?

What did you think of Baal surviving and then subsequently being defeated for good this time? Will 80's Ruby play a prominent role in season 3? Sound off below!

See you in October, deadites!

Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 Episode 10 Quotes

Oh here's a question, if we had sex right now would it still be a threesome, cause technically you're both the same person?

Ash

Henrietta: No one escapes their destiny Ash. Yours is to watch me suck out your soul!
Ash: Make sure you suck both barrels.
