Incorporated Season 1 Episode 5 Review: Profit and Loss

at .  Updated at .

Well, something FINALLY happened.

It took five episodes, but there was an actual plot development on Incorporated Season 1 Episode 5.

Ben Improvises - Incorporated

It doesn't mean the episode was good (it wasn't), but at least there was a little action.

Everything I do is for Elena.

Ben

As if we didn't know that already, Boring Ben is a man on a mission. And we saw just how far he'll go to regain the love of his life.

Roger panned out pretty much as I predicted last week: he's a lame, sniveling dick.

Elena (whose whore name is Anatasia, BTW) wasn't afraid of his threats, even after he performed a little corkscrew plastic surgery on her face.

Boy Talk - Incorporated

Since pretty much any injury can be aerosol sprayed away, I don't get what Roger expected.

She told him she'd been cut so many times that he could do anything to her and she wouldn't care.

The truth is that with your pants off, all you limp dicks look the same to me!

Elena

This scene reinforces that the Red Zoners are really the tough ones in this world, and the Green Zoners are soft, mindless sheep.

Hello, Aaron.

Roger

Roger was pretty devious in finding Elena's dad, but Boring Ben proved again that Roger is no match for him.

Boring Ben killing Roger was expected and frankly, not very satisfying.

Whining Brother - Incorporated Season 1 Episode 5

I knew as soon as Roger started nosing around in Boring Ben's business that he would get dead pretty soon.

I was hoping they would surprise me and have Boring Ben discredit Roger in some way, or do something clever, but they took the simplistic, lazy way out.

The constant flashbacks don't really do anything for me, either.

They established from the jump that Boring Ben and Elena were friends and lovers back in the day, so showing more and more of what we already know is just filler.

One kinda cool thing was that they brought back debtor's prisons from the 19th century. Everything old is new again, I guess.

And sending dead Roger to the "Mexican wall" was cute: I guess it got built after all. I wonder who paid for it? Haha.

The writers continue to pay short shrift to Laura, the only character that resonates with me.

At least we got a little background about her traumatic attack in the Red Zone eight years ago. They need to do much more about her past. Like NOW.

Laura meeting with Julian was a head-scratcher. Do they have a relationship we don't know about?

Another Glutton? - Incorporated Season 1 Episode 5

And I don't know about you, but what they are doing with Julian's character really bothers me.

At the beginning of the show, he was portrayed as an evil torture master.

But with each following episode, they soften him more and more. It's disappointing. He's practically a teddy bear now.

Having Julian act as a father figure to Laura and advising her on how to deal with her past was flat out weird.

You have to make a decision. Are you going to let one twist of fate define who you are?

Julian

I want a big bad on this show, and right now there isn't one. I was hoping it would be Julian, but nope. Roger? Please.

If the big bad is just the society itself, then this is a BIG mistake. I want a flesh and blood enemy to provide dramatic focus for the characters and the show.

All in all, it was slightly less dreadful than the past episodes, but killing the only person to provide some dramatic conflict after only one episode is very weak.

They need to have some movement on the whole Ben/Elena thing, too.

If that's the focus of the show, then let's get some present day things happening. They need to get them together in some way soon.

That's my take-tell me yours. Was killing Roger so soon a mistake? Is there anything on this show that makes you want to tune in next week? Sound off in the comments section.

And remember, you can always watch Incorporated online right here on the mother ship, TV Fanatic.

Do what you have to do to get what you need. She's just a piece of company property.
