Scorpion Season 3 Episode 12 Review: Ice Ca-Cabes

at .

While checking on a pipeline in the desert may not seem dangerous, Team Scorpion needs to start wearing bulletproof vests or other forms of protective clothing at all time. Agreed?

On Scorpion Season 3 Episode 12, Cabe was seriously injured during a mission, and, naturally, this did not happen anywhere near a hospital. I mean of course not, this is Scorpion, not some medical show!

It is not unusual for a member of the team to find themselves almost dying. It happens more than it probably should, and it's to the point where there is rarely ever a fear that the Team Scorpion member will actually die. You know they are going to somehow get out of whatever pickle they are in and shake it off.

An Unusual Solution - Scorpion Season 3 Episode 12

Still, I found myself going, "DAMMIT 2017, DON'T START THIS WAY!"

There are a bunch of things that work about this near death experience. For one, it happens early enough that it's fully developed, meaning the team does not come up with a quick fix to save the day.

This means that we actually get to focus on how everyone is processing this situation emotionally. The episode isn't so much about the shock factor that Cabe might die, it's about the family that is Team Scorpion and everyone's relationship with Cabe.

Man Down - Scorpion Season 3 Episode 12

We tune in every week is for those relationships, and so it is great to sit and cry through watch an hour of television that honored them.

While we all know how everyone on the team feels about Cabe, it's even better to see and hear them show it, whether it is through words or through panic as they try to do whatever they can to save his life. Sly bagged a rattlesnake for Cabe, so if that doesn't show love, I don't know what does.

That thing is untrustworthy! He snuck up on me! You're a rattlesnake! Use your rattle!

Sly

Cabe, while unconscious for most of the hour, still managed to be there for his team. He asked for help, which showed how much he trusts Scorpion. He knows far too well how crazy some of their schemes end up being, but he knew that they would save his life.

He did not need to ask. Team Scorpion was already trying to figure out how to save him, but Cabe asked anyway. It was two words directed towards Walter, and those words gave Walter a little bit more confidence to do what needed to be done.

Everyone had a little moment with Cabe, but personally, my favorite scenes were the ones between Cabe and Happy. I'm still upset that we have never truly witnessed the greatness that has to be them being roomies, but hearing how upset Happy was at the prospect of Cabe moving out helped make up for it.

Hey, roomie, you might hear that I yelled at you a lot when you were dead. I was just motivating you.

Happy

Don't even get me started on Cabe giving Happy that pin that belonged to his mother, or how Happy does not have close family that could pass down an emotionally significant family heirloom for the momentous occasion that will be her wedding to Toby.

I just love their relationship so much, you guys. What was your favorite Cabe moment/relationship of the hour?

Freezing Cabe - Scorpion

Switching gears for a moment, let's discuss the ripple effects of Tim's departure.

The obvious fallout was going to be between Walter and Paige (more on that in a bit), but I appreciated that Sly brought up a valid point - Tim was useful during their missions, so Team Scorpion just lost part of what made them effective.

Naturally Tim's leaving does not mean that Team Scorpion can no longer solve cases, but it was nice that Sly commented on how Tim's departure negatively impacted the team's productivity. It's a reminder that Tim did more than just participate in a love triangle.

Now onto the love triangle part of it. Even though Paige was upset with Walter for forcing Tim out, she still looked out for his wellbeing during the case.

Saving Cabe - Scorpion Season 3 Episode 12

She confronted him about not opening up and speaking from the heart when they were about to stop Cabe's heart. One of my favorite aspects of Waige is that Paige is always pushing him to better himself and open up emotionally.

Paige was furious with him, and she could have not said anything about Walter's, "it was a pleasure working with you," line, but Paige couldn't do that because she still cares about him. She wants to help him open up to those around him, and in this instance, not have any regrets if Cabe didn't make it.

Walter: I'm sorry I, I'm sorry I didn't use appropriate words before we stopped your heart because you know I have, I have issues expressing myself. It's been more than a pleasure working with you. As I said in the garage we could find another federal agent, but uh, but we couldn't find another Cabe Gallo. It makes all the difference.
Cabe: It's okay. I know you care about me.
Walter: It's much more than that. I love you, Cabe. I love you.
Cabe: I love you too, son.

There's still hope for Waige, as evident in that one conversation in the car. No matter what, Paige can't stop caring about him. Winning her back won't be quick nor easy, but it will be worth the wait.

Scorpion Season 3 Episode 12 Quotes

Walter: I'm glad to hear it. Everything is back to normal.
Paige: Back to normal? How exactly do you feel everything is back to normal?
Walter: Well Scorpion is back to the original roster, and we have a case to handle, and Tim leaving, as he told me, was his decision, so I calculated that you wouldn't be angry at me...My calculations were off, weren't they?
Paige: Just a little bit.
Walter: But Tim told me he wanted to go.
Paige: Tim said what he had to say because of an uncomfortable situation you created. You effectively forced him out, so with respect to things between you and me, things are definitely not back to normal.

Man is it hotter than a jalapeño's armpit out there.
