Timeless Season 1 Episode 13 Review: Karma Chameleon

at .

Well, that didn't work out as planned.

That statement certainly covers all storylines on Timeless Season 1 Episode 13, as well-made plans all went splat.

Lucy Helps Cover - Timeless

First, Flynn's little time-delayed bomb finally went off.

Flynn gave Wyatt the name of his wife Jessica's killer on Timeless Season 1 Episode 12.

So naturally, Wyatt's idea was to go back in history to prevent Jessica's murder from happening.

His solution was to prevent the killer, Wes Gilliam, from being born by keeping his parents from having the necessary one-night stand.

That's because Rufus correctly insisted that no one gets hurt during this mission, which would have to be a first.

Changing History - Timeless Season 1 Episode 13

Wyatt mounted a charm offensive on Claire, while Rufus served as his wingman, distracting Claire's friend and Gilliam's future dad, Joel, all the while geeking out on '80s TV (who doesn't miss the A-Team?) and video games.

Not that he was terribly adept at distractions: A child running out into the tornado, water all over the kitchen. Huh?

But stuff kept getting in their way: a tornado, a drunk, an injured state trooper.

It's like history was giving them the finger.

In the end, they seemed to have accomplished the mission, in the worst possible way. That's what happens when you have the action hero draw up the strategy.

You asked me what Jessica would think about all this. She'd be horrified. Honestly, I wonder if I can look her in the eye. But she's going to be there and she's going to be alive.

Wyatt [to Rufus]

Lucy, an unindicted co-conspirator in this rogue mission, rightfully defended Wyatt. After all, he did what was natural considering the circumstances.

I am not surprised that Wyatt stole the Lifeboat behind your back. I am shocked that he didn't do it sooner. I'd do it myself if I thought it would bring Amy back. And you would do the same for your family.

Lucy [to Christopher]

Actually, when you come right down to it, what were the Rittenhouse folk thinking, hiring a soldier who has reason to change history? At least Lucy is just in it in the hopes of getting her sister Amy back.

Of course, there was no happy ending for Wyatt. Jessica was still dead, although they did save two other women, and he was off the team.

Did Flynn intentionally give him a wrong name? Or was Wyatt just fooled by a serial killer embellishing his legend?

Or is history just a fickle bitch, and no amount of planning can account for all possible outcomes?

Anyway, Wyatt appears to be missing from the previews for the next episode. But I expect he'll be back sometime before Season 1 wraps in three weeks.

Unlike poor Anthony. He should have realized that when Flynn rescued pilot Emma from the 1880s, his days were numbered.

Anthony's explanation of Rittenhouse's plan was fairly incoherent. What I got out of it was Rittenhouse was screwing with history even worse than Flynn, tailoring it to fit their taste.

OK, that explains Flynn's plan somewhat. He hopes to stamp out Rittenhouse in the past. But, worst case scenario, the second time machine, the Lifeboat, is busy chasing him through history, stamping out little chronal fires.

Which sadly contributes to the monotony of the narrative this season. I understand it better, but I don't have to like it.

So how did the explosion Anthony set affect the mother ship? Are Flynn and Emma spiraling through time? Or did Anthony screw up and just blow himself up?

Since Lucy and Rufus are off to Paris in the Roaring Twenties next episode, I'm guessing the mother ship is still fairly functional.

Agent Christopher has proven that she could be an ally to Lucy, Wyatt and Rufus, if they would just trust her. Except for Wyatt, it was general hand spanking all around.

Also, Christopher got into it pretty good with the slimy Mason, which will probably come back to bite her in the ass.

Being Convinced - Timeless Season 1 Episode 13

Finally, there was the segment of each episode I like to call Two Minutes of Mythology.

Lucy, who remember is supposed to be the smart one, decides to confront Rittenhouse man Cahill in his own house.

He essentially told her, "You know nothing, nothing."

I've got news for you, my dear. You're a part of it too, whether you know it or not. It's in your blood. It's your legacy. And it's nothing to be ashamed of. It's a gift.

Cahill [to Lucy]

So Lucy is deeply tied into Rittenhouse. Since she's never seen Cahill before this mission started, I'm guessing her mother is too. Remember her mother, who has only appeared in one more episode than missing sister Amy?

I'm guessing we might get up to Three Minutes of Mythology in the final three episodes, if this is to make sense by season's end.

To see if you can weave together the limited strands of mythology, watch Timeless online,

Did you honestly think Wyatt's plan would work? Was Lucy's idea any better? Did Anthony just throw in with Flynn to slow Rittenhouse? Comment below.

Wyatt: I don't know. Something shiny.
Rufus: Are there parachute pants in that bag?
