Supergirl Season 2 Episode 17 Review: Distant Sun

Lois Lane killed Hercules!

Well, sort of. Actually Rhea killed her husband, Lar Gand, on Supergirl Season 2 Episode 17, but honestly, who didn't see that coming?

Rhea is crazy, and she's clearly willing to do anything to get her son back.

Family Reunion - Supergirl Season 2 Episode 17

Well, I guess it is safe to say Mon-El is no longer the Prince of Daxam. Daddy's dead, so that makes him the king. Not that he has any interest in claiming his throne.

So far Rhea's unwilling to kill Mon-El, despite the fact that he is against her. It begs the question: why does she care so much?

Does she really, truly love him and this is her twisted way of showing it? Or is there another motive behind her insistence he returns to Daxam?

I understand that Rhea wants to save her home planet and get things back to the way they were, but why can't she do that herself? Wouldn't she prefer being the sole ruler? Does she really need Mon-El?

Rhea reminds me somewhat of Astra.

Astra was evil, but she also cared about Kara, and like Rhea, wanted to lure Kara to her side.

There are a lot of similarities between the two, and my guess is Rhea will end up with a similar fate, as well. Probably not at Alex's hand, but I wouldn't bet against Mon-El killing his mother.

Rhea has already tried to kill Kara twice (more if you count the bounty hunters), and she's loaded with kryptonite. She's not going to fall for J'onn's shapeshifting trick again, either. Though, that was a pretty brilliant move.

Kara Versus Rhea - Supergirl Season 2 Episode 17

As fun and well choreographed as all the fight scenes are, there's something to be said about ones involving kryptonite. Thanks to Clark getting rid of it all, we haven't seen much of it other than the synthetic stuff Cadmus created.

It raises the stakes when Kara is vulnerable, and it makes the fight so much more exciting. I can't wait for Rhea to return for the next round with Kara. We could be gearing up for an epic battle. Perhaps the kryptonite will be what forces Mon-El to kill his mom to save Kara's life.

Bounty Hunter: I'm the most powerful telepath in the Alcorian system. I know more than you can imagine.
Winn: Oh, yeah except for the difference between a gun and a stapler.

The bounty hunters themselves were a bit disappointing. How does a telepath mistake a stapler for a gun? Winn deserves serious props, though. He's getting braver by the minute. He even made his second trip to space!

Waiting - Supergirl Season 2 Episode 17

Winn will always be needed as the genius tech guy, but the more we can get him in the field, the better. He's so much fun to watch. I'd rather watch him than Guardian any day. Sorry James.

Mon-El sacrificed himself to save Kara's life. Is he starting to redeem himself to those of you who don't like him? Is he winning any new people over to his side?

He's made some mistakes, and his lie was a huge one, but he's not the same, selfish guy he once was. At least, he's trying hard not to be.

Out of curiosity, those of you who don't watch The Flash, were you super angry about the fact that they reconciled on a different show?

I watched The Flash Season 3 Episode 17, which was great by the way, but was very surprised that such a big moment between them didn't even happen on Supergirl.

Last you non-watchers saw, Kara broke up with Mon-El, and the next thing you know there's a super short "previously" telling you "psych! They're back together!"

Thoughts?

Being Polite - Supergirl Season 2 Episode 17

Alex and Maggie do yoga now. We'll probably never see them do it again, though, because it was just a way for them to conveniently run into Maggie's ex.

It turns out, Maggie cheated on Emily, which makes it a little odd that Maggie stopped her on the street to say hello. It didn't seem like Emily noticed her at all, so realistically, she could have just kept on walking.

I'm curious how the dinner would have gone if Emily had actually shown up. Would the cheating have come up? It probably would have been insanely awkward for all parties involved.

I guess I can understand why Maggie agreed to it if she wanted a chance to clear the air for what happened between them. But, if that's the case, she should have filled Alex in on the whole story before dinner.

The whole thing just didn't make a lot of sense to me, but it gave us some adorable Sanvers moments, so I'm willing to let it slide.

Maggie: You don't think I'm a bad person?
Alex: No. Actually I always thought that you were perfect, but it's really nice to see that you have problems too.

Maggie has some serious walls in place, but like it or not, Alex is breaking them down one by one.

As we get closer to the conclusion of Supergirl Season 2, what do you guys expect for the big finale? If you'd asked me a few weeks ago, I would have said the final battle would be with Cadmus, no question.

But now with Rhea on a rampage, who knows?

In case you guys missed the news, Katie McGrath (Lena Luthor) was promoted to a series regular for Supergirl Season 3. Does that mean Cadmus will be around longer than we thought?

Surprised? - Supergirl Season 2 Episode 17

It would make sense.

All right, finally, we have to talk about the Big Return of Lynda Carter. Honestly, her return was pretty disappointing.

We barely saw her, and her transformation at the end didn't mean much since, well, we already knew she was an alien. Did they forget they gave that away already?

The question is, what role will she play in the future? Hopefully, the next time we see her, it'll be a little more interesting.

What did you guys think? Mon-El sure seems to have a lot of time on his hands. He's learning to cook, reading Shakespeare (which he really needs to finish), and catching up on classic movies. Kara's currently unemployed, but he still bartends along with helping out at the DEO.

Anyway, if you missed anything, don't forget you can watch Supergirl online. If you didn't watch the musical crossover, you can watch The Flash online, too. I highly recommend checking it out.

Supergirl Season 2 Episode 17 Quotes

Kara: No, don't cancel your plans just to search databases. That's ridiculous.
J'onn: Uh these databases won't search themselves.
Winn: Actually they will, I just got to write a program for it. And I just signed up for more work, didn't I?

Kara: Any word from your parents?
Mon-El: No, they're just hovering around in orbit. Is that what they mean by helicopter parenting?
