On The 100 Season 4 Episode 7, Abby and Clarke enacted their "last resort" plan, experimenting on a grounder they'd been told did terrible, inhumane things. Little did they know, Emori manipulated everyone with her "survivor's move." 

Below, TV Fanatics Caralynn Lippo and Allison Nichols are joined by Samantha Coley from Tell-Tale TV to discuss everything that went down during “Gimme Shelter.“

Octavia and Ilian – love it or hate it?

Allison: Ehhh indifferent? I wish that someone else was getting through to Octavia. I don't know how I feel about Ilian yet, honestly.

Samantha: Conflicted. Like Allison I'm not sure how I feel about Ilian, these two are giving me emotional whiplash. I liked that he saved her, but all of this felt like a trope-filled fanfic. It wasn't bad, I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. It was predictable.

Caralynn: I think I'm alone here, but I really liked it. Maybe not love, but definitely not hate. The way they hooked up was a little cliché (I would have preferred if it had taken them a little bit longer to get there, but I understand the dramatic inclination).

Octavia needed someone from outside her existing group of people to get through to her. Ilian, who is similarly in a tremendous amount of pain from having killed his family, was that person.

Emori played everyone (mostly Clarke) like a fiddle in a bid to survive. What did you think of that development? Does it change how you think of her?

Allison: My jaw dropped. It was such a great twist, and it fits with Emori's character. She will do whatever it takes to survive. It doesn't change how I feel about her too much. If anything, it kind of made me love her more.

Samantha: I think it was perfect. I didn't see it coming because I bought everything she said, but it also falls perfectly in line with how I already perceived her character. She's a perfect little Slytherin, and I love it.

Caralynn: I agree with both Allison and Samantha. Emori's move was both shocking and yet totally expected. It was impressive how quickly she threw together her plan to frame this guy.

On a related note, what's going to happen when Abby and everyone realizes Emori lied & they're experimenting on an innocent man?

Allison: I think they will have a slight distrust of Emori. No matter what, they had to experiment on someone. I think Clarke was pretty much on board with that being the only option. Abby will be the one to feel awful about experimenting on an innocent man, and I think the main issue will be that the guy had no idea what he was about to endure.

Samantha: I'm not sure they will find out? If they do, Abby will feel awful. She was already conflicted enough, and this will absolutely just make it harder on her. This might be the reason for Roan's apparent freak out in the next episode, but I really don't know if the rest of the group will learn of Emori's deception.

Caralynn: I'm sure everyone will find out, sooner rather than later. In fact, I'd guess that they find out and have to make the decision to continue with the experimentation. That sounds like a fittingly depressing and morally problematic thing that would happen on this show.

After failing to save two of their people – in addition to Octavia – Bellamy came to accept Kane's idea that you can't save someone who doesn't want to be saved. How will this affect him this season, and how will this affect his relationship with Octavia?

Allison: Bellamy's never going to stop trying to save people. It's just who he is. I think he might stop beating himself up about the people he can't save, though.

I hope that Kane's words lighten the burden that Bellamy's carrying, but this is The 100, so no one can be completely pain and guilt free. As for his relationship with Octavia, I can see this making Bellamy stop chasing her and wait for Octavia to come back to him.

Samantha: I think more than anything it's changed his relationship with Kane. To me when he repeated the phrase back to Kane at the end, it was like Bellamy was telling Kane that he wanted him to stop trying to save him too.

I think he may ease up on trying to get Octavia's forgiveness, which may actually help him get it faster. Hopefully, this doesn't cause too big of a rift between him and Kane though!

Caralynn: Without a doubt, once Bellamy backs off from demanding Octavia's forgiveness, he'll finally get it. Octavia needs to go through her own journey before being able to forgive her brother.

I thought a particularly interesting moment throughout Bellamy and Kane's scenes was when Bellamy pointed out that Kane had floated his mother. Kane treats Bellamy like a son in many ways, but the reality is, Kane isn't his father. That was a blistering reminder, and I'm sure it will alter his relationship with Kane from here on out.

What was your favorite moment, quote, or scene?

Allison: I loved Bellamy breaking down when he realized he couldn't save those people, and I also loved Emori's confession that she lied about that guy attacking her and her brother.

Samantha: The Kane/Abby radio conversation (surprise, surprise). I love the way she calms down instantly upon hearing his voice and how he's able to give her comfort because of the man he used to be on the Ark, especially because who he was on the Ark is the reason Bellamy doesn't accept his comfort later.

I think their conversation is just really lovely, and I'm excited to see Abby repeat his words back later. 

Caralynn: I loved the brief moment of Clarke finding that luxurious bedroom in the house on Becca's island. She so rarely has the chance to relax, so that entire sequence was very rich and telling. Of course, it ended poorly, when Clarke realized someone had broken into the house, but still. Great work by Eliza Taylor.
