The Blacklist: Redemption Season 1 Episode 2 Review: Kevin Jensen

You are who you are unless you aren't.

Tom felt a strong connection to Kevin Jensen on The Blacklist: Redemption Season 1 Episode 2, but it was probably due more to their ways with deception than their possible shared childhood.

It's Over - The Blacklist: Redemption Season 1 Episode 2

Tom is trying to understand his past and as each case comes up, he learns a little something new.

This time around, he learned that the subject of their rescue was a former childhood friend of Christopher Hargrave. Had Christopher not died, then perhaps they'd still be friends to this day.

That is...if Tom really is Christopher Hargrave.

There weren't a lot of answers thrown out this week to answer that question other than Scottie's videos of a young Christopher.

I don't know about you guys, but don't you think she would just know if Tom is her kid?

I pondered that for a short time. If I was separated from my son for as long as she's been separated from hers, would I really know it was him if he was standing right in front of me?

Famke - BLR

It's not like she's looking at Tom as her son. Right now, Tom is someone she's interested in because he has the skills she needs for the jobs her company does.

If she sat there and stared at him long enough, though, would something click? There'd have to be something about him that would trigger a memory, right? Something he does that would remind her of Christopher?

Yet, nothing does, and she's already spent a great amount of time in his presence.

I'm starting to believe that maybe Red and Howard are lying. But, why?

Scottie is too smart of a woman to not notice something. Which brings me back around to my original thought, if I wasn't looking would I really notice anything?

It's obvious that Tom still believes he's Scottie's son, and I wonder how long he's going to be able to keep it quiet. You have to give him credit for being able to keep his mouth shut.

I know for sure I'd never be able to stay quiet.

But maybe Tom isn't sure about any of it. Still, he seemed to take the idea that Kevin Jensen was a friend from childhood to heart. After he learned that nugget of information, he was more invested in the job than he normally would have been.

Kevin was a like a son to Scottie. At least is seemed that way. She looked at him as the son she never got to see grow up. That's why the case was so personal for her. Kevin and his mom were there after Christopher disappeared.

She felt she owed it to them to do whatever she could to bring him home safely. It was a second chance to save the son she never got to save.

But in the end, she lost him, just like she lost Christopher. It was devastating.

It was devastating for Tom too, who might have looked at Kevin as a way to learn more about himself. Maybe Kevin could have provided him with some answers,

Nez: What do you think?
Solomon: I think we should've been chiropractors or proctologists. Pretty much anything else. Can't defend this position. Let's go.

Despite the seriousness of the hour, there were several humorous moments. Tom trying to get through the gun guy's daughter's singing was hilarious. Tom showed he could do and tolerate anything to get the job done.

The other moment was the exchange between Soloman and Nez in the car when they were compromised. Can you imagine Solomon as a proctologist? I think he'd actually enjoy it!

The Blacklist: Redemption has been fun and fast-paced with intriguing cases that have kept me glued to the screen. I don't know about you guys, but I'm really enjoying the series so far.

Tom BLR

I think what I like best is seeing the added depth to Tom. It starting to put everything he's done on The Blacklist in perspective. This isn't to say Nez, Solomon, Dumont and Scottie aren't interesting. They are. I love them all and hope to learn more about each as the season progresses.

The Blacklist: Redemption Season 1 Episode 2 Quotes

Commander Bahar: Your denials are an insult. There will be no mercy. In time you will be executed for your crimes.
Kevin: I said what you wanted me to say.
Bahar: You said what you are, not because I wanted you to, but because this is the truth.

Kevin's not my child, but if I leave him there he'll die. Diplomacy won't save him. he'll be executed and we won't know until it's over.
