Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 7 Review: A House Divided

at .

Woz and Harlee’s crew splintered under the weight of their own secrets and lies on Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 7.

Can any of them survive if they’re no longer backing one another up?

The Fight Of Her Life - Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 7

When Harlee began her confession in Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 6, I wondered just how truthful she would be. It turned out, not so much.

Wozniak: I don't know if I love you or if I hate you for what you just did.
Harlee: You and me both.
Wozniak: It was a hell of a gesture, but it doesn't absolve either of us.
Harlee: It wasn't about absolution. It was just about acknowledging what I did. They deserve to know the truth.
Wozniak: But it's not the whole truth. The FBI turned you before the heist.
Harlee: The whole truth would have broken us apart and I won't let that happen.

But Harlee’s gesture broke them apart all the same.

The only one willing to put themselves in Harlee’s shoes was Tess, most likely because she has kids herself and could understand how much pressure Harlee was under to protect them all.

Unfortunately, Tufo and Espada were less understanding. When Tufo quipped that Harlee was Woz’s “favorite child” it felt as though this team really was family, sibling rivalry included.

It’s not as though Tufo and Espada are on the side of the angels.

They were more than willing to bend or break the rules when they felt if was for the greater good, but with the realization that they were left out in the cold on this, the gray area of greater good has become all the murkier.

No matter what he’s done, I do believe that Wozniak has always believed he was protecting his team. Watching Tufo and Espada walk away had to hurt, as did this Shades of Blue quote...

So much for stronger together.

Wozniak

Woz And His Ax - Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 7

Sadly, no matter what happened to their team, the threats from Bianchi and the FBI weren’t going away.

Harlee: Is this what it feels like to be hunted?
Wozniak: All of human history boils down to predator and prey.
Harlee: I'm not sure I know the difference anymore.
Wozniak: Who shoots first.

Harlee’s idea of getting Vincent Rossi to turn on Bianchi was great but naive. There was no way that the professional hitman was going to turn on his boss.

Wozniak’s plan was better; to make it seem as though Rossi had turned and then use him as leverage with Bianchi.

That led to a brilliant conversation between Woz and Rossi about angels that made me wish we’d gotten more scenes between these two.

Wozniak: When an angel first visits a human, you know what they say? “Be not afraid.” Why do you think they say that?
Rossi: Because when people are scared they scream and nobody likes screaming.
Wozniak: Must be an occupational hazard for you.
Rossi: It means I didn't do my job effectively.
Wozniak: Reason why angels say, be not afraid, is because they're terrifying. They're not the cute little things you see on greeting cards.
Rossi: Come on. Don't ruin Hallmark.
Wozniak: They're powerful creatures who dole out judgement and enforce the will of God.

Regrettably, that’s the awful similarity between Bianchi and Wozniak; they both think they can play God and dole out judgment.

Both men are like a couple of alpha males fighting over territory. The problem is, someone has to end up dead before either will walk away.

As happy as I was for Woz that Linda came home to him, even if he is sleeping on the sofa, I also feared that Bianchi might kill her just out of spite. I doubt he’s a man who allows many people to grab him by the throat.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that gun Linda’s carrying comes into play by the end of Shades of Blue season 2

Elsewhere, Stahl was just as creepy as ever.

Stahl: We're more often afraid than we are actually harmed, Harlee. I think Bianchi's just using your imagination against you.
Harlee: Tell that to Caroline's imagination. Last time I checked it was spread all over the ground.

Stahl’s one cold hearted bastard. Bianchi didn’t get to where he is by making idle threats and Stahl is very aware of that.

That’s why Caroline’s dead. That’s why his partner was killed. Stahl’s not that naive, just stubborn and he likes to feel he’s the one in control.

Stahl and Harlee - Shades of Blue

I was really hoping that Cristina was going to take the laptop with her to her aunt’s, but no such luck. Stahl still has a bird’s eye view into Harlee’s home.

Also, I was relieved that Harlee didn't budge when Julia pressured her to save herself. I don't trust Julia any more than I trust Bianchi or Stahl.

When shots rang out in the television studio I was shocked, especially with that disturbing ice cream truck music echoing in Woz’s head. I was expecting someone from that truck to open fire at any moment.

So did Bianchi put a hit out on Julia?

Julia Visits Harlee - Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 7

I’d be surprised if this was more than a show of power in an effort to keep Julia under his thumb. Having the mayor of the city in his pocket would be quite the coup and Bianchi doesn’t seem short sighted enough to kill her.

What do you think TV Fanatics? Is Bianchi trying to take out Julia? Will Stahl eventually arrest Harlee and the rest of the crew?

And will Tufo and Espada ever come back to the fold?

Check back later this week to see what our Shades of Blue round table has to say.
