Ravi and Liv hooking up might be more awkward that we anticipated.
It won't stop Ravioli shippers, though. Liv and Chase hooking up, on the other hand, was super hot. iZombie Season 3 Episode 12 also brought us zombie Harley, Clive the hypochondriac, Natalie's return, and an explosion.
Join TV Fanatics Allison Nichols, Amanda Steinmetz, Jasmine Blu, and Yana Grebenyuk as they discuss the penultimate episode of the season.
What are your thoughts on zombie-cured Natalie's return? Are you tired of Major's redundant angsty storylines?
Allison: I was so happy to see Natalie again, but why couldn't she live a happy life? Based off that explosion, I'm pretty sure she's dead.
I am getting tired of Major's angsty storylines. I want something new for him. I'm not saying he has to be over the moon happy, though it would be nice, but let's give him something else to do besides being alienated from the world.
Amanda: Yeah, I'm tired of them. I'd rather the writers give Major something else to do instead of getting into these relationships. I was glad Natalie escaped, but I never felt much about her character in general. However, I do think it's tragic she got caught in that blast.
Jasmine: I agree with the others. I certainly appreciated some closure on Natalie's presence since the show made her character significant to Major. It's unfortunate that she's likely dead now, but at this point, the Major whump is absurd. He's the show's equivalent of a kicked puppy.
Yana: So it looks like the actress who plays Natalie has a main role in the new CW show with Lucy Hale. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with Natalie just appearing and then disappearing and then appearing again just to die but it felt useless. Her coming back this season accomplished nothing specifically for her character. It maybe gave her closure but then why kill her? I'm over it.
What are your theories about the Gold reveal, Baracus, etc., heading into the finale?
Allison: I don't really have any theories! I wish I could think of any, but I can't. I would love it if Baracus wasn't the evil mastermind behind everything. I feel like him being the bad guy is just so obvious and expected.
Amanda: There's definitely something wrong with Fillmore Graves and Baracus. Although if there's a mastermind behind anything, my bet would be on Fillmore Graves.
Jasmine: I assumed Chase would be the shady one of the bunch, but now I'm wondering if it's Gold. I agree with Allison, Baracus feels too obvious.
Yana: I agree that Fillmore Graves only really revealed to Liv specific things. What we know is what they wanted Liv to know. Who knows what is actually going on or how involved they are.
But I have no theories because all I thought was that Baracus probably wasn't smart enough to pull something this huge off. He still seems embarrassed and or nervous about visiting a dominatrix. That doesn't exactly spell highly intelligent murderer.
How do you feel about Liv and Chase hooking up?
Allison: I was actually really loving it, maybe because I love Jason Dohring. It's definitely going to complicate things a ton, especially Liv's relationship with Justin, who is the sweetest guy. Still, the scene with Liv and Chase in the bar was fantastic.
Amanda: Yeah, I can't really be too mad yet about Liv and Chase hooking up. Justin is great, but they haven't been a couple for that long. I'm not invested in them. Also, Jason Dohring was super smoldering in that bar scene. It'll be terrible if Chase was involved in Katty's murder, but we just don't know yet.
Jasmine: It's entirely Jason Dohring and his amazing chemistry with Rose McIver's fault that I was mesmerized by their bar/hotel scenes. However, Justin is a sweet guy, and he did not deserve that.
She cheated on him, plain and simple. Liv can't blame that choice she made on Katty brain either. I was drawn into the scenes, but I'm disappointed in Liv, and I can't let her off the hook; not even for Jason Dohring.
Yana: I don't know Jason Dohring from his Veronica Mars days but Chase was ridiculously funny to me. He was so frigid and serious all the time, seeing him loosen up with Liv wasn't a bad thing.
I am not a fan of cheating though, so I wish it didn't happen like that because he actually seems to have some kind of feelings for Liv. But he also might have killed Katty so it is 50/50 at this point.
Do you feel like Katty was an underused character?
Allison: I had no idea that was her actual name. I just called her "CDC lady" in my head.
I definitely thought she was going to play a bigger role in the season, and I looked forward to Ravi having to work closely with his old boss and trying to keep the zombie secret from her. Her introduction came across as a big deal, and then she was barely around.
Amanda: I agree with Allison. I thought she was going to be a bigger part of the season, but it turned out the character really served as plot advancement.
Jasmine: "CDC lady," I love it! Yeah, I wouldn't have minded that she served as plot advancement if it happened sooner. It's the second time they built up a character (Vivian, too), only to barely use them, then kill them off. Katty could have been used better.
Yana: I found it weird how she fixated on the brains in the stomach earlier this season, only to then be handed the zombie theory and just shrug it off. She didn't believe Ravi when they worked for the CDC though so maybe that was in character for her, but still, I was expecting more of a reaction.
It is a little upsetting to think that she was only around to mess with Peyton/Ravi and then die so Liv could be suspicious of Fillmore Graves. Let's hope that isn't the case.
Should Peyton take the chief of staff position with Baracus?
Allison: It's a fantastic promotion. As long as this whole thing doesn't end with Baracus behind bars or anything else that would smear his surprisingly good name, then yes, Peyton should take it. Being Chief of Staff for the Mayor would look great on a resume.
Of course, I also don't know if this is a job that Peyton wants. If Baracus was a genuinely good guy, would Peyton want the job? She might be truly happy in the DA's office with no aspirations of leaving it for another job. Peyton's career goals aren't really explored.
Amanda: Yeah, Peyton seems happy working at the DA's office. However, working for Baracus puts her in the position to spy on him and see if he's up to no good.
Jasmine: We don't know much about her career goals. If she wants to advance her career and pad her resume, sure, why not? She'd also get to help her friends investigate, as well.
Yana: I am all for Peyton joining just to be sneaky and figure out what is going on. Staying close to Baracus as well as on his good side could only benefit her. But I also agree that we should have known more about Peyton wants in her career because we didn't get any glimpse into that. It is always about a case or what is best for the greater scheme of things, sometimes just focusing on a character is great too.
What was your favorite/quote of the night?
Allison: I really loved watching Clive interrogate everyone from the far corner of the interrogation room. Also, the interrogation with Liv, Ravi, and Clive in there was absolutely hilarious.
Amanda: I have to go with Liv and Chase in the bar. The chemistry was palpable and the banter was great.
Jasmine: The interrogation room scenes. I could not stop laughing at traumatized Liv trying to avoid eye contact with Ravi. Clive being paranoid about contracting something, was a blast. Also, Ravi screwing with Liv and his entire conversation with the elderly bigot had me laughing out loud.
Yana: Obviously, Clive is the sunshine of every episode. His not wanting to be anywhere near anyone who could be sick was the greatest. But Ravi and those memories with Katty weren't exactly under the radar. Also, I applauded Ravi calling out offensive people, much like the actor does on Twitter.
