Queen of the South Season 2 Episode 3 Review: Un Pacto Con El Diablo

Teresa faced some unexpected choices on Queen of the South Season 2 Episode 3.

Did she make the right ones?

That depends who’s asking.

Teresa Must Make a Choice - Queen of the South Season 2 Episode 3

After Guero blindsided Teresa with his return, it was good to remember how much in love she used to be with the man.

She would have done anything or gone anywhere with Guero, and her dream was to run off with him to a little house on the beach and make love on the sand.

Dreams change.

Teresa’s dreams are no longer about love or fun in the sun. Now that she has a taste of power, she’s not about to give it up.

Teresa: One day we'll be sitting on a beach and some one's going to walk up to us and put two bullets into our heads. We can't run anymore. You know that.
Guero: So what now?
Teresa: Everything in our life was always on your terms; that's over now. If you want to be with me, you need to prove that you're not with the DEA, convince Camila you're on her side, part of her family. I had to make a choice. Now you need to make yours.

Maybe the version of Teresa who began Queen of the South season 1 would have been okay in Witness Protection, but now that Teresa has seen what the future could hold, a life under the thumb of the Feds must look like another version of prison.

But the choices may not be that easy for Guero or Teresa. Camila may very well kill Guero and possibly Teresa once she knows the truth.

The DEA certainly won’t be giving up their two valuable assets without a fight.

Agent Finnerman: I know you're a good person in a bad situation.
Teresa: And you're going to save me?
Agent Finnerman: Camila Vargas is a cold blooded criminal who uses loyalty as her currency. The only way out is with a bullet. It won't even be her who pulls the trigger.

Finnerman wasn’t wrong. I doubt Camila would trust Teresa at all if she didn’t need allies quite so bad right now. Camila’s bad luck has become Teresa’s opportunity to prove herself.

Camila Has a Request - Queen of the South Season 2 Episode 2

And she certainly proved herself to both Teresa and James when she not only returned to save James but convinced the civilian militia to stop Epifanio’s drug shipment and blow up his tunnels.

Teresa’s instincts and ability to read people served her well. Camila and James couldn’t have asked for a better ally, and they both knew it.

I was impressed by what you did today. You manipulated a pack of rabid dogs into doing our bidding. This car, is a symbol of my trust. I'm giving you your freedom. Don't make me regret it.

Camila

When Teresa lied about her car overheating, I was incredibly disappointed in her. It’s a lie that’s far too easy to uncover, and she should know better by now.

Having been held for hours by the DEA, Teresa should have had answers ready for Camila when she returned. Her lack of forethought could have easily gotten her killed.

Pote Warns Teresa - Queen of the South Season 2 Episode 3

Thankfully, Pote is still on her side, and he delivered my favorite Queen of the South quote of the night.

I checked the car for GPS trackers. It's clean, for now. There's an old saying, the fish only sees the bait, never the hook. I know you lied to me about your car overheating, Teresita. Whatever you're hiding, it better be worth it.

Pote

I’m most curious to see how Camila reacts if Teresa does come clean about Guero. It’s a risky move, but she can’t hide him forever, and the longer she waits, the worse the outcome.

Isabela's Birthday - Queen of the South Season 2 Episode 3

I also found it sad that Camila bought that expensive car for her daughter only to never have the opportunity to give it to her.

I only hope Camila has the chance to see Isabela again because the girl’s life is in danger even though she’s far too naive and protected to realize it.

The Colonel can’t keep his eyes off the beautiful teenage girl, and I was surprised that Epifanio put up with his veiled threats as long as he did.

Who exactly do you think you are talking to? Do you think you are the only killer in this place? If you say my daughter's name again. I will carve it into your skull.

Epifanio

As dark as it sounds, that’s a scene I wouldn’t mind seeing, although I think it would be even more satisfying if Camila took the Colonel out instead of Epifanio – as long as the job gets done.

As Camila told Teresa…

Remember, in revenge as well as love, a woman is more barbaric than any man. We're the same. Never forget that.

Camila

Can you imagine how brutal Camila’s reaction would be if she knew her daughter was being threatened?

For that, she might just do the job with her own hands.
