This episode set up everything nicely for the rest of the season.

The Killjoys' mission became clearer, and the big bad was unveiled in all her glory on Killjoys Season 3 Episode 3.

First off, the big mystery from Killjoys Season 3 Episode 1 was explained. Well, in a way.

At the end of that episode, D'avin was brought up into the Hullen ship, and then disappeared.

That scene was promptly ignored on Killjoys Season 3 Episode 2, leading to much head-scratching among the faithful.

It turned out that D'avin was Khlyen's secret weapon against the Hullen.

He's actually the ship whisperer, the one in control of all those Hullen ships, thanks to Khlyen.

Once the Hullen ship invited them in, thanks to D'avin's proximity, Dutch made the smart move of figuring out to where the ship had been flown recently.

That took them to the Land of the Lost Hullen, where D'avin had been only three days prior.

It's too bad D'avin remembered none of it, even if his manly chin and manly voice made a definite impression on the rebellious Quin.

But that's been par for the course for D'avin since he returned from the war. Because of the surgery he had undergone, he's got memory gaps.

So apparently, the prevailing theory goes that the dying Khlyen used his Freaky Friday connection with D'avin to implant skills he would need for the coming battle with Aneela.

That makes sense because he's a lot more malleable that the stubborn Dutch, especially where Khlyen's concerned.

And fortunately, Johnny's back to protect D'avin and Dutch from their worst impulses.

The main storyline was a sad one with the Unseeing and the Last Seer waiting patiently for the return of Khlyen, which is never going to happen. At least Quin got away from religious fanaticism and gets to see the bigger universe, for better or worse.

I'm loving the new dynamic between the two nerds, Johnny and Zephyr. Johnny is smart and knows it. Zephyr is smart and insists on telling everyone else about it. So, of course, they don't get along.

Johnny has learned how to dumb down difficult concepts for those around him. Zephyr, not so much.

It's natural that Johnny should resent being shoved into a mentor role since he didn't sign up for it. But, as Dutch pointed out, they are going to need all the bodies, and minds, they can get for the coming war.

I think Johnny and Zephyr will become friends, sooner rather than later, partly because Johnny can get along with anyone and partly because they have so much in common. It's got to be a good thing to have another person to talk nerd to.

It's just going to be a bumpy ride for a while.

While Zephyr is a worthwhile addition, I'm not crazy about the seeming deletions of much of the supporting cast, as the series takes a cosmic turn. The Westerly contingent, including Fancy, Alvis and Pree, have disappeared for the past two episodes. Isn't this war with Aneela big enough to include them as well?

I'm wishing Kendry had stayed dead. She knows many of the Killjoys' secrets and is not afraid to use them to insinuate herself into Aneela's good graces.

Telling Aneela her father was dead probably wasn't the best place to start because, as Khlyen once said, Aneela is crazy.

Aneela's plan is still a little fuzzy. So far, I've got having the Hullens take over the universe, with her as their queen. That makes it Dutch's mission to stamp out the many, many pools of green goo to inhibit the rise of the Hullen.

What's the blend going to be between the ongoing Aneela storyline and chasing down warrants? Being a Killjoy can't be back-burned too much since that's what the show is ostensibly about.

And where do the missing RAC agents, and Banyon Grey's Oversight, fit in? Whose side are they on? Banyon seems to be anti-Dutch, and Dutch doesn't need any more obstacles.
