Law & Order: SVU: Philip Winchester Joins as Chicago Justice Character

at .  Updated at .

Viewers have not seen the last of Peter Stone.

Philip Winchester was a series regular on Chicago Justice, but the show was canceled earlier this year after just one season.

Since then, it has been announced that Jon Seda will return to Chicago PD, but the rest of the characters have been left in limbo.

Until now.

Winchester has now been confirmed to appear as a recurring player on Law & Order: SVU's upcoming 19th season which is scheduled to debut later this year.

Stone played Assistant State's Attorney on Chicago PD and Chicago Justice, but his new role in New York will be as ADA.

His move makes sense when you consider the fact that Peter's father Benjamin Stone is already tied to the Law & Order franchise.

Michael Moriarty played the character on Law & Order's first four seasons, so it makes sense to keep the character's son in the mix.

NBC confirmed that Chicago Justice was canceled in May, but no real reason was given for the decision until the network's appearance at the Television Critics Association summer press tour a few days back.

It was a hard scheduling week – Timeless went off the schedule because we couldn’t find a good place for it and then we brought that back,” NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt confirmed to Deadline during TCA.

“It just became somewhat of a real estate issue and just looking at how many of these Chicago shows we can sustain, we thought they are all good but it seemed like Justice was the most conventional, it was the closest to a Law & Order show, so we thought maybe this is the one we should sacrifice."

"But it wasn’t because the show wasn’t good, it was really because a lot of other factors.”

Which other characters from Chicago Justice return to the NBC Dick Wolf universe?
