Queen of the South Season 2 Episode 10 Review: Que Manden Los Payasos

at .

So much changed in the span of Queen of the South Season 2 Episode 10 that it was a little hard to keep track of who were allies and who were enemies.

Take Teresa and James.

James and Teresa - Queen of the South Season 2 Episode 10

Just a few weeks ago, these two were inseparable. They relied on one another, and Teresa didn’t hesitate to go back and face the border militia in order to save James.

But as Camlia continues to give Teresa more responsibility and praise, this once powerful team appears to be falling apart.

James: Camila likes you because she can control you. The truth is, you are a sloppy, inexperienced girl who lets her emotions affect her judgement.
Teresa: No, you're upset because I work with Camila, and you work for her.

I thought the crack about Teresa being “sloppy” and just a “girl” was pretty low, but it speaks to how threatened James feels about Teresa’s relationship with Camila.

He’s always been Camila’s right hand man, and now he’s being questioned, belittled, and shoved aside, but that’s more Camila’s fault than Teresa’s.

Even Pote looked as though he was questioning James' strategies for handling the business while Camila was in jail…

Teresa: This is not about money, It's personal.
James: It's always about money.
Pote: Until it isn't.

One of the highlights of the hour was King George.

When we first met this crazy drug shipper, I wasn’t sure what to think of him…and I still believe that a little goes a long way, but I am enjoying when he pops up.

Admittedly almost any Star Wars reference will make me smile, but I loved King George even more when he compared Pote to a Wookie in this Queen of the South quote...

Who’s the Wookie? No offense, brother. Chewbacca's the single greatest wingman in the history of the universe.

King George

Camila fought off her attackers in jail better than I expected. I don’t know if that’s from any prior experience or sheer tenacity, but she gave as good as she got, until the knife came out.

Camila In Jail - Queen of the South Season 2 Episode 10

Much to James' dismay, Teresa was right about that too. If guards can be bought, then anyone can buy them, but Teresa’s deal with a local gang gave Camila real protection.

Teresa, I trust you more than anyone. I would never lie to you.

Camila

What I didn’t understand was why Camila lied to Teresa about sleeping with Cole.

I do believe that  the paperwork with Teresa’s name on it was Cole’s idea, but I can understand why Camila didn’t come clean about it. Why give Teresa a reason to doubt her if she doesn’t need to?

But why would Teresa care about Camila having an affair with her attorney? What difference does it make and why risk such a silly lie when you’re trying to build trust?

You see, you and I, we work for the same person, but only you are stupid enough to think that Camila won't throw you to the wolves to save her own ass.

Cole

I was about to say that Cole turned out to be more ruthless than I expected, and then I remembered how he had Teo killed and made it look like a suicide.

Fighting For Her Place - Queen of the South

Kelly Anne was right to be scared. She was never anything more than a possession to Cole. Some pretty arm candy to take out in public that could easily be replaced if need be.

Bitch, the only thing your ungrateful, traitorous, ass needs to do is pack your shit now or pray she kills me.

Cole

Only Kelly Anne didn’t wait for Teresa to do the job. She did it herself, and I never saw that coming.

I think Kelly Anne is better off with Cole dead and Teresa on her side. I don’t think the DEA could have protected her from Cole and Camila if she had turned on them.

But what is Teresa’s plan? Will Cole just mysteriously disappear?

I can’t wait to find out.

Epifanio Has a Plan - Queen of the South Season 2 Episode 10

Then there was Epifanio’s tribute to Batman.

It had always bothered me that Epifanio let Cortez get away with murdering his right hand man, and literally roasting him like a pig.

Colonel Cortez needed to be put in his place or put down.

Unfortunately, Epifanio left before the job was done, leaving one burnt, bleeding, scary looking clown behind.

I’ve always hated clowns, and something tells me that this one will end up in Epifanio’s nightmares.

Queen of the South Season 2 Episode 10 Quotes

Our people rely on the cocaine production for their survival. I'm a pragmatist. I have no desire to end that. As long as you project yourself as a proper businessman we have no issues.

Epifanio

James: The minute I'm gone you end up in here. She's not ready, Camila. I can handle the business alone.
Camila: If it wasn't for Teresa we wouldn't have anything worth protecting.
