Suits Round Table: Are Old Habits Dying Hard for Mike?

at .

Mike looks set to continue his lies.

On Suits Season 7 Episode 5, the lawyer found himself trying to stay on the right side of the law, but it meant lying to everyone nearest to him.

Below, TV Fanatics Christine Hinton, Jasmine Blu and Stacy Glanzman discuss the lies, Harvey's decision and more.

What is your take on Mike lying?

Christine: Not only was he wrong, he was stupid about it. He knows this entire case can be kicked out of court if he gets caught, yet he openly met with witnesses and even went to the prison where he’d be on camera.

It’s one thing to quietly coach Oliver behind the scenes, but Mike isn’t even trying to hide his involvement. Has he gotten away with so much that he’s he just that arrogant?

Jasmine: Contrary to popular belief, I like Mike. It's just he makes it so difficult to root for him. We're seven seasons in, and he's still pulling these types of shenanigans? Has he learned nothing?

Does he actually grow as a character if he keeps repeating the same mistakes? As Christine pretty much pointed out, he was reckless and it was a stupid move, and yes, he may very well be that arrogant at this point.

Stacy: I'm sick of it. I thought we were finally past it, but apparently not. I like Mike too, but at some point good intentions just aren't good enough. Rachel was right when she questioned what his word is worth. I'm going to be really disappointed if his involvement ends up derailing the case.

Multiple Priorities - Suits

Was Harvey right to have Louis defend Paula?

Christine: Yes. It wouldn’t have been right to do it himself but he made sure she had the best lawyer possible, and that’s the kind of thing you do for somebody you care about. I also loved how open Harvey was about how much faith he had in Louis. That alone made me smile.

Jasmine: Yup. They bicker and have their issues, but Harvey has always considered Louis to be one of the best lawyers he knows. Louis is good at his job, so who better to defend Paula? It was a nice truce between them. Although, it bugged me a tad that Donna kept prying.

Stacy: I agree with everything said. Harvey wanted someone he trusts on the case, and who better than Louis? I loved every scene with them this week, and I'm happy to see a more stable Louis.

Hi, Secretary! - Suits Season 7 Episode 5

What did you think about Donna's tactic to find out whether Holly was right for PSL?

Christine: Well, she dealt with Holly head on, which I liked. I only wish Holly hadn’t walked away after that one mild confrontation. I think she would have been a fun addition to the firm.

Jasmine: It was something. I suppose I understand why she had reservations, and I always love her protective streak. I may be alone in this, but I feel like Donna is floundering in her role, and the way she's written... it's like the writers don't know what to do with her anymore.

That's disappointing. I was intrigued by Holly. I would have been game for her sticking around.

Stacy: I agree with Jasmine that it feels like the writers don't know what to do with Donna right now. I thought her promotion had potential for interesting story lines, but so far I haven't been invested in it. As for Holly, I get why she challenged Harvey on hiring her. She had good reasons to be skeptical.

A New Lie? - Suits Season 7 Episode 5

Has Louis finally turned a corner?

Christine: I certainly hope so! I’m so tired of Louis going around in circles. I’d love to see Louis become more confident in himself, and eventually find real love.

Jasmine: I can only hope! I second everything Christine said.

Stacy: Ditto. I like stable Louis, not the guy who's one minor glitch away from a complete mental breakdown.

Will Frank stab Mike in the back?

Christine: Probably! I couldn’t believe that Mike went to see the guy who once threatened both him and Rachel.

If Frank has proven anything, it’s that he can’t be trusted, and I think he’d enjoy the opportunity to take Mike down if given the chance.

Jasmine: Ha! Frank will stab Mike in the front the second he gets an opportunity. It wouldn't be Suits if I didn't stare at the screen utterly gobsmacked by Mike's questionable decisions though.

Stacy: Ugh, I was not at all excited to see him again. It's definitely going to backfire, and could end up being detrimental to the outcome of the case.

Which storyline are you enjoying the most right now?

Christine: Almost anything with Louis that doesn’t have him losing his temper. I really enjoyed the growth we saw in this episode, and I love seeing Louis as a fantastic attorney.

I’m tired of having him play second fiddle to Mike and Harvey all the time.

Jasmine: Again, I agree with Christine. But shockingly, I'm starting to enjoy Harvey and Paula. I initially had my own reservations about them. I like seeing Harvey happy and in a fulfilling relationship. He has matured since his last one.

Stacy: Even though I hate that Mike is lying, I'm definitely invested in the prison case. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
