Viewers are not sticking with American Horror Story Season 7.

After American Horror Story Season 7 Episode 1 pulled in 3.9 million viewers and a 2.0 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic, there was much speculation about whether the series would hold on to many of the viewers for the duration of the season.

Unfortunately, American Horror Story Season 7 Episode 2 plunged almost 40 percent from the premiere, settling for 2.4 million viewers and a 1.2 rating.

For comparison purposes, American Horror Story Season 6 Episode 2 managed 3.3 million viewers and a 1.8 rating. This was down 35 percent vs. American Horror Story Season 6's opener.

The post-premiere drops are nothing new for the series, but when the ratings are already down double digits, it has to be a little worrying for FX.

American Horror Story is an important brand for FX. American Crime Story and FEUD probably would not have landed at the network without American Horror Story making people obsess over anthology series.

FX has been public about focusing on delayed viewing as opposed to live plus same day, and there's every reason to believe that the season to season drop will be narrower when other metrics are factored in.

Elsewhere, Fear the Walking Dead returned Sunday night with stable ratings. It managed 2.1 million viewers and a 0.8 rating for the two-episode midseason premiere.

The show has been on a downward spiral ever since it launched in 2015, but it still performs well enough to stay alive and has been renewed for Season 4 with a new showrunner.

Meanwhile, Outlander returned to Starz with 1.5 million viewers and a 0.3 rating. It logged a series high in total viewers for its first run episode on the night.
