Teen Wolf Season 6 Episode 17 Review: Werewolves of London

at .  Updated at .

Wow, way to gloss over a huge tragic event that left four people in the hospital. It's totally not important.

On Teen Wolf Season 6 Episode 17, there was fallout from the shooting that occurred at the end of Teen Wolf Season 6 Episode 16. We just don't get to see much of it. We jumped to the hospital and then quickly jumped again to when Melissa was out of surgery.

Usually, this type of incident – a shooting where four people we care about (well three and Rafael) are severely injured – yields an emotional scene or two. We're talking tears streaming down our faces as we watch people we love holding on to dear life while the uninjured loved ones fight back their emotions trying to save them.

The Waiting Game - Teen Wolf Season 6 Episode 17

It would have been nice to see, wouldn't it?

We don't see Scott rush to his mother's side, trying to save her, trying to keep her safe. Malia doesn't run to Lydia, one of her best friends, trying to see if and where she is hurt. Nope, none of that happens, and it's a travesty.

Melissa: Listen to me, you didn't do this.
Scott: But I'm responsible. You need to sleep.
Melissa: I just need to tell you.
Scott: It can wait.
Melissa: It can't wait!
Scott: Mom.
Melissa: Don't run. You fight.

We are robbed of what could have been really fantastic scenes that punch you in your gut and have you reaching for tissues. This is the final season – there are three episodes left – and it would have been nice to focus on the characters we love who we will soon never see again.

The reason why we have watched Teen Wolf for six seasons is due to our love for these characters.

The bad guy of the season or half-season wasn't what kept us coming back, and it wasn't the quality storytelling either. No, we're attached to Scott McCall and his pack. They are the reason we watch.

Instead of giving us an episode or even half an episode to really focus on these characters and the fact that they could have died, it's glossed over like it's not important.

We got the bare minimum of Scott talking to his mom, her telling him not to blame himself and to fight, and Liam beating people up because his best friend was shot.

We got the bare minimum that highlighted the fact that loved ones were hurt, and our characters were upset about it.

Teen Wolf basically said that the fight against Gerard and the anuke-ite was more important than the characters and the relationships they have formed. Why else wouldn't we see Liam running to Mason's bedside or see any scenes at Scott's house immediately after the shooting?

It's because Teen Wolf had better things to do, better things to show us. The tragedy happened to raise the stakes of the war, to urge Scott to recruit more people.

Scott: No more peace summits. No more running. No more half measures.
Malia: What's the plan?
Scott: We fight back.
Malia: I'm good with that plan.

It was something that happened to push Scott's journey forward, but this tragedy wasn't important enough to spare more than five minutes of airtime.

Can you imagine the pain of watching Argent applying pressure to Melissa's wounds? This is the woman he loves, and she, like the last love of his life, was dying in his arms.

Instead, Argent was nowhere to be found. I don't know how he came out of this unscathed or why he wouldn't be parked in the hospital waiting room beside Scott, but he never made an appearance.

All Hands on Deck - Teen Wolf Season 6 Episode 16

It doesn't make any sense that he was not in one scene nor was there one mention of him in an to attempt to excuse his absence, at least no mention that I caught.

You know he would've been in that hospital, armed to the teeth, to protect Melissa and everyone else while they recovered. Well, it's either that or he would have gone to kill Gerard himself.

There's no time to show that, apparently.

Instead, we have time for Peter Hale. We have time for Deucalion. We have time to watch Jackson and Ethan interrogate some hunters in London.

We don't see Jackson and Ethan reunite with the pack, which would have been enjoyable. We see them off in their own little world, bickering about their anniversary and proving that they are pretty good interrogators.

Jackson and Ethan brought some levity to the hour, but there were much better ways to spend that time.

You think Gerard turned you into a pariah? Your powers did that. You'll always be an outsider because of your abilities.

Deucalion

We also have time to watch Lydia have another creepy vision to remind us all that she's a banshee.

Look, I love Lydia, but the only time we see her these days is when she's having a vision. It's like being a banshee is the only purpose she serves.

We don't see her detective skills or her being a great friend. We only see her in banshee mode, whether that means having visions or using her banshee skills.

If the choice was between watching Lydia walk around in her banshee vision or spend time dealing with the immediate aftermath of the shooting, which one would you choose?

Also, for someone who was shot, Lydia was doing surprisingly well. Yeah, the bullet(s) missed every major organ, but she was still shot. Lydia looked perfectly fine and healthy. She was wandering around the woods like it was nothing.

The only thing out of place was that she was in a hospital gown. It's like the fact that she was in a gown was supposed to make us believe that she was hurt.

No one bought that, Teen Wolf, no one.

What did you think of the episode? On the bright side, the pack made some headway on the anuke-ite. Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
