Gotham Season 4 Episode 4 Review: The Demon's Head

at .

I can't believe Ra's al Ghul slit Alex's throat.

I mean I can believe it, but it doesn't take away from the shock of it.

Ra's al Ghul knew that Bruce wouldn't give up the knife on Gotham Season 4 Episode 4, and killing Alex seemed to be part of the plan to push Bruce further towards his destiny.

He Wants the Knife - Gotham Season 4 Episode 4

But now that Ra's is at Blackgate, what will that mean for Bruce and Alfred? If Ra's can disappear from Jim's office, he certainly can disappear from prison, unless he has more nefarious plans to put in place.

We haven't seen the end of Ra's al Ghul, that's for sure.

Bruce will never forgive himself for Alex's death. All the time he spent trying to save the boy and then freezing when confronted with Ra's al Ghul will way heavily on him. It will undoubtedly be something he refers back to for the rest of his life.

He'll always ask himself if keeping the knife away from Ra's was worth it.

He never got the answer to the mystery of the knife, so I'll be curious to see what he does now. Will he confront Ra's in prison, or will he go back to the museum to find the answers that Dr. Winthrop and Alex weren't able to provide?

Bruce Looking Dapper

Bruce's layers are developing nicely. He's becoming more and more complicated as the season progresses with each episode providing him another layer towards his future mystique.

It was surprising that Bruce even mentioned the Lazarus Pit and killing Alfred to Jim. Jim is already suspicious that Bruce is hiding something and knowing Jim, he's not going to let the idea of these mystical waters go.

Of course, he might only think that Bruce is bonkers, but Jim knows something is going on. Bruce and Alfred have been acting weird, and Jim will get to the bottom of it.

How soon will it be before Jim figures out Bruce's secret identity?

It seemed strange that Harvey wouldn't have told Jim about going away for a few days himself. Having Harper relay the information seemed out of character, but it is what it is.

Jim's life is getting more complicated. Getting involved with Sofia Falcone is a dumb move on his part, but Jim doesn't know how to keep business and pleasure separate.

Sofia Tells a Story - Gotham Season 4 Episode 4

I'm not even sure if Jim should trust Sofia at this point. She's keeping her cards close, but how does he know she's not there to seek revenge for Jim killing her brother and using taking down Penguin as an excuse?

Sofia is surely playing a game with Penguin. Allowing him to kill three Falcone capos was a bold move, but it alleviated his paranoia that she was there to take him down.

It doesn't seem like she has any sort of plan, but as I said, she's keeping her cards close.

Does Carmine even know she's in Gotham? What will he do when he finds out? Will he come to get her or give her his blessing?

It's going to be interesting to see how that plays out, if at all.

Penguin Shows His Power - Gotham Season 4 Episode 4

Watching Penguin try to figure out Ed's nonsensical riddles was the best, wasn't it? A couple of street guys rapping them was the hilarious icing on the cake and Penguin's reaction to them the flaming candle.

It's clear that Ed has lost his touch, and he may never get it back. Being frozen for five months took its toll, and Ed knows he's not the same person he was before. That it took six hours to come up with two dumb riddles was embarrassing, and Penguin loved taunting Ed about it.

I can't wait to see Ed get together with Solomon Grundy and Lee. If you don't know what that's about you can check out this interview from NYCC where the three talk about their upcoming alliance.

Penguin may think he has the upper hand now, but he better watch out. It won't be long before he realizes he made a mistake letting Ed go. Sofia Falcone won't be the only thorn in Penguin's side. Ed will be back and next time with a vengeance.

What did you think of "The Demon's Head"? Will Ed ever regain the brain power he once had?

What is Sofia's plan? Does she even have one?

What about Ra's al Ghul? Will Bruce ever forgive himself for Alex's death?
