How to Get Away with Murder Season 4 Episode 2 Review: I'm Not Her

If anyone needed a win, it was Annalise Keating.

On How to Get Away with Murder Season 4 Episode 2, the character continued on her new pathway with a pro bono case that had a link to the past.

Looking for the Truth - How to Get Away with Murder Season 4 Episode 2

When I first noticed she was representing Jasmine, I was bored. The whole prison storyline on How to Get Away with Murder Season 3 got stale real quick.

I did not expect to find myself so engrossed in the case. It was one of the best ones of the entire series, and I hope this paves the way for many more cases of the week.

The show has become too bogged down with the more serialized nature of late, and if it has any hope of continuing to spin a complicated web of stories, it should look to the cases of the week.

Jasmine's past was heartbreaking. The moment we found out about all the white girls in the same situation who were sent to rehabilitation centers in their youth, I knew Annalise had to win the case.

Laurel's Revenge - How to Get Away with Murder Season 4 Episode 2

This was personal for the disgraced lawyer. Jasmine was her ray of hope while in jail, and she wanted to be the same for her friend in the courtroom.

Having all of her convictions sealed was the only way to give Jasmine a new lease on life. Without that, she would have struggled to get a job and would have very likely found herself back on the inside before long.

Michaela: Button your blazer. Nobody’s going to hire you with your belly hanging out.
Laurel: I’m barely showing.
Asher: Your boobs are.

I do hope that she manages to stay on the straight and narrow because opportunities like the one handed to her don't come up often, and it would be foolish to squander it.

The reaction on Annalise's face when she realized Bonnie was working for the defense attorney was priceless. Hey, it's not like she would get employed anywhere else.

Where's The Baby? - How to Get Away with Murder

Any way you look at it, Bonnie made the best of a bad situation. Nate was right to be skeptical of her motives. He was once part of the inner circle, so he knew there was always some plan in the works.

The scene with him and Bonnie coining the term Annalise Anonymous was comical. I'm sure I'm not the only one yearning for them to get drunk and talk smack about Annalise.

It's only a matter of time.

I'm not sold on Isaac just yet. The moment Annalise revealed that she married her previous therapist when he told her personal details, I was out.

Isaac is going to end up dead sooner rather than later. We already know they are very involved in the flash-forward. Annalise sure can't keep herself out of trouble, can she?

The biggest twist of the night came in the form of Annalise's hotel room being searched and Bonnie tearing up at what is very clearly a crime scene.

Is Annalise dead? There was no body, so I'm going to assume there was some sort of scuffle and that she made a getaway. Nothing is ever as it seems on this show, so it would not be surprising to find out she set up the scene to fake her death.

Beast Mode Michaela was in fine form, but it's just a shame that her chances at the law firm are going to be hindered by Laurel's plan to get revenge on her father.

Connor: You have cream cheese on your face.
Asher: Wanna lick it off?
Connor: Is that a dare?

This episode confirmed that Laurel was not just speculating that her father killed Wes. She knew a good chunk of the details and needed one of her friends to get into the law firm that represented her father.

This presents a conundrum for Michaela. The poor girl thought her crime-filled days were a thing of the past. She knows how difficult things are for Laurel, so I expect her to commit to finding out the truth with her friend.

It remains to be seen whether Asher and Connor will be brought in on the big revelation. Wouldn't it be great to see them all putting on a united front to find out all the details?

It would be a therapeutic process that would probably allow them all to draw a line under all the stuff they've been through over the years.

"I'm Not Her" was a solid episode that left us with more questions than answers. The new mystery seems like it could be strong.

Other tidbits from the episode:

  • Will Frank ever give up on Annalise? They have been so awful to one another at times, and there's no way they will ever be able to be friends again.
  • How will Bonnie react when she finds out that Frank is still checking in on Laurel?
  • Should Oliver get a spin-off? How to Get Away with Cyber Crime sounds like an excellent title for a series.
  • Thank god Laurel forgave Connor. You could tell he was hurting because he knew she was hurting. Let the Keating 4 be friends!
