The things we do for friends.
On Lethal Weapon Season 2 Episode 6 Riggs goes out of his way to protect an old friend who may be involved in a robbery/homicide case.
Jake wasn't the type of guy you'd expect Riggs to hang around with, but sometimes we connect with people for reasons we can't understand.
Jake had saved Riggs' life and went to jail for it. It was a debt Riggs felt he could never repay which is why he went out of his way to do anything he could do for his old buddy.
Riggs was conflicted between duty to his friend and duty to his job, but his friend won out and for good reason. Had Jake not stepped in and killed Riggs' dad, Riggs would have died at his father's hands.
There was no doubt that Jake was a bad seed from the very beginning. Stealing the Corvette was probably Jake's idea, but where Riggs turned his life around and became a cop, Jake didn't and continued with his criminal ways.
You have to wonder if killing Riggs' dad contributed to his bad ways or if he just used it as an excuse for his bad behavior. It's a tough pill to swallow when you serve time for protecting your friend.
Riggs felt guilty, but Jake was wrong holding the incident over Riggs' head like he did.
It was difficult, but Riggs realized there's only so much he could do for his friend. Jake wasn't going to change no matter how many times Riggs bailed him out.
It was time to dissolve the debt, and Riggs did that by sending Jake on his way for the last time.
Murtaugh didn't quite understand what was happening, but he knew there was something deeper going on.
It was funny to watch Murtaugh straddle the line, but he had been in the same situation before with his old training officer so he really couldn't pass judgment, and he didn't. He was more interested in protecting Riggs than anything.
Avery understood the situation because he opened up Jake's juvie records and discovered the truth. I liked that he and Riggs made a special connection regarding the information, but why couldn't Riggs share the story with Murtaugh?
It took a lot for Riggs to spit out the vague information he did, but I would have liked to have seen Riggs open up to Murtaugh about his relationship with Jake. Riggs can't keep everything hidden forever.
Friendship is a two-way street, and Riggs isn't giving Murtaugh much back in return.
Molly was a nice surprise, and it was obvious that Riggs had feelings for her since back to their teenage years.
His offering to occasionally check in on her and her son opens the door to a future romance between the two, but she was Jake's girl so it might become awkward.
And we all know how Riggs gets. He might not be able to deal with someone who is sure to trigger all sorts of memories from his past.
While Riggs was trying to walk the line with his friend, Roger was walking the line with his family.
He found a joint in a cookie box and automatically assumed it belonged to one of his kids. He even went so far to have Scorsese test a sample of their hair to see which one was lying, but as it turned out neither of them tested positive for marijuana.
Roger tries so hard to tow the line which is why it was hilarious when he got blown out of his mind after eating Cousin Connie's gummy bears.
And who better to save the day then his good friend Riggs who brought over spray-can cheese and crackers to help him get through his first time getting high. It was Roger's first time, right?
It was a sweet moment between the two, but I still would have rather seen Riggs open himself up to Murtaugh. Riggs is being more like a surface friend than a true friend. True friends feel comfortable sharing secrets, and while Roger has shared some of his, Martin has yet to divulge any of his own.
Speaking of secrets, I loved the sexting controversy between Bowman and Bailey. I'm not a big Bowman fan, but his reaction to the whole situation was cute as was Scorsese's. I bet he was jealous as hell that he wasn't the one to get the sext.
Could we be looking at a little love triangle at the LAPD?
What did you think about "Gold Rush"? Did Riggs do the right thing letting Jake go?
Were you surprised at what happened to Riggs' dad?
Will Bailey and Scorsese ever get together? Is there a potential romance for Molly and Riggs?
