Supergirl Season 3 Episode 7 Review: Wake Up

at .

Move over Morgan Edge; there's a new baddie in town.

Really, how is a mere megalomaniacal man supposed to compete with a creature known as a "Worldkiller?" With Sam becoming Reign on Supergirl Season 3 Episode 7, all other threats pale in comparison.

At Mon-El's Side - Supergirl Season 3 Episode 7

Sam cum Reign looks like she's going to be a badass villain, but her creation story left a little to be desired. I mean, she was wandering through the desert using that crystal as if it was some kind of demented divining rod.

What if she'd never been shot, or Ruby hadn't been pinned down by the telephone pole? If Ruby was an unfortunate delay, why design your monster weapon with the ability to get pregnant in the first place?

Seriously, whoever created her was not thinking things through.

Sam: Hold my hand. You feel that?
Ruby: Your pulse?
Sam: That's you. You are my heart.

And let's not forget what a bright idea it was to put her Fortress of Solitude in the middle of the United States. Winn literally just mentioned how they use USGS monitoring at the DEO. You don't think a sudden, massive rock formation popping up out of nowhere will go unnoticed, do you?

Even with all these glaring issues, I'm glad that we have Sam's mystery figured out. We all knew it was heading towards her actually being an alien; now we can get on to the good stuff.

I'd rather think about what Reign's evil plan is and why she was made than how a single teenage mom managed to become the CFO of a major tech company before she's 30.

Awake - Supergirl Season 3 Episode 7

I wonder how long it will be before Kara, Alex, and Lena notice that their friend is missing, especially since Kara is (understandably) distracted.

Mon-El's return was another easily foreseen event, but like Alex, I didn't suspect time travel was going to be part of the equation, much less a Mrs. Mon-El.

Poor Kara. And I thought finding out about an ex's engagement on Facebook was rough.

Kara: When I saw you on that ship, oh my god, I felt like could hope again. I could touch you...and see you and hear you and be with you, finally. But you're different. [pause] You have nothing to say? Nothing?
Mon-El: I'm sorry.
Kara: [Resigned] Shame on me for having a human heart.

Getting over Mon-El and the accompanying heartbreak is going to be an important journey for Kara, but I'm dreading it.

Mostly because of my sneaking suspicion that the Girl of Steel is going to try and take the high road and befriend Imra and pretend that she's truly happy that Mon-El's happy.

But staying friends with your ex isn't usually a good idea. You can't get over somebody when they're still in your life. Cold turkey is the only way to go.

The truth never hurts as much as secrets.

Kara

Although, if Mon-El keeps acting so high-handed, it might help her reevaluate her feelings. Trying to mollycoddle Supergirl? Are you kidding me?

Still, distance is the best medicine in my opinion, and the Arrowverse crossover couldn't be better timed for the Danvers girls. Okay, so a weekend in Vegas might have been a better escape than a wedding, but an escape is an escape.

Besides, in the end, there's going to be a lot of ass kicking, and that's sure to get them out of their funk.

Winn: Listen, we only have your best interests at heart.
Kara: So, uh, which of you two is deciding what my best interests are?

With the action centered at the DEO, we didn't get to see Lena or enough of James even to count. Even Alex was basically in the background.

But the upside to that was having Winn and Kara work a little more closely than they have been. Personally, I'd love to see those two share the screen more often.

It's great that Kara is developing more female friends (#girlpower), but Winn is the one who has been there for her since the beginning. He's been relegated to tech work and hanging out with James while Kara's been having ladies night Monday through Sunday.

Alex [to J'onn]: I will alert you if anything happens.
Winn: Yes, leave us in charge. And by us, I mean Alex because I should *not* be in charge of anything.

You'll want to catch up and watch Supergirl online before the big crossover event! Don't forget to check out The Flash, Arrow, & Legends of Tomorrow -- if you're not up to date on Barry and Iris' relationship, I have a feeling you'll be as lost as Mick when anybody talks about something other than crime or booze.

Everybody -- and I do mean everybody -- will be traveling to Earth X during the crossover event. Supergirl Season 3 Episode 8 takes Kara and Alex to Earth 1, where evil doppelgangers interrupt the Flash's nuptials.

If you want a full visual teaser of all four episodes, you can check out our preview. You'll want to examine the pics closely, as there is sometimes more going on in the background than in the focus of the shot!

What did you think of "Wake Up?" Are you disappointed that Mon-El's moved on, or do you think there's still a chance for him and Kara? What will happen to Ruby now that Sam's gone to the dark side? Should J'onn and M'yrnn have a sitcom spinoff a la Frasier?  Let us know in the comments below!
