Lucifer Season 3 at Midseason: Best Episode, Expendable Character & More!

at .

There have been some incredible twists during Lucifer Season 3, but we've also had to sit through some episodes that didn't seem to tie into the narrative at all.

So what does it mean for the overall flow? Is this season of Lucifer as charming as what came before?

Are there areas of weakness that could be improved? What are the highlights?

Take a look at what we think when you scroll through the gallery below and watch Lucifer online to catch up on all the excitement.

1. Most Disappointing Aspect of Season 3

The confusion about the episodes filmed during Season 2 and airing during Season 3 and how they've affected the overall flow of the season is disappointing. It's hard to tell if it's genuinely an issue or if the writing is sincerely scattered, neither of which is ideal. I wish I had never known about the bonus episodes because maybe it wouldn't have made my brain hurt so much.

2. Expendable Character

While their romantic endeavors were once something to look forward to when they came to pass, Chloe has now become expendable. If she failed to show up to work one day, Dan would take her place, and the interactions between him and Lucifer would be highly entertaining. On the other hand, put Chloe and Lucifer in a room together these days and it feels more awkward than anything else. Even "Chloe's Birthday," which would have once made a lot of sense seemed off kilter. She was suddenly woebegone over Lucifer "forgetting" her birthday after practically ignoring him every moment they spend together. To which I say -- meh. I no longer care.

3. Character Whose Absence Makes a Difference

Here's hoping Lesley-Ann Brandt doesn't plan on having children every year because her loss is felt when Maze is on her road trips. We need her badassery, Lucifer needs his common sense and strong arm, and Linda needs her new best friend. Maze is just discovering her soul; it's not the best time for her to be out roaming alone, dammit.

4. Best Relationship

Amenadiel and Linda have grown a lot since her life was on the line, and the friendship they've developed is beautiful. It appears to have blossomed into something more and waiting for that to come to the attention of Maze has me on tenterhooks, but I think Maze will see Amenadiel and Linda for what it is. It's genuine and based only on the purest of intentions. They listen to each other and make each other laugh. It's delightful.

5. Worst Relationship

I've grown to love Dan over the course of the series, and he lives up to the name Detective Douche when he fails to realize how different the recent Charlotte is from the woman he slept with earlier. I don't mind that he's interested in this Charlotte as much as I do that he never as soon as she returned he was asking questions relating to why she never called, etc. I would have liked to see him take a breather and get to know this different side of her and warm up to her again. As it stands, he comes off looking like a dufas.

6. Best Episode

Lucifer Season 3 Episode 8, "Chloe Does Lucifer," was the best so far in my opinion because it showcased the most entertaining side of Lucifer while ratcheting up the relationship between Amenadiel and Linda.

Tom Ellis is at his very best when he's being the self-centered Lucifer who knows he's pushing it too far. Misreading every clue with the hope it meant he wasn't becoming too tame and losing his LA mojo, he was oh so good at being bad while trying to push Chloe to be a ridiculous version of him to crack a case.

Chloe's lack of playacting superceded Lucifer's ego while she tried to laugh, be sexy, shake her hair, etc., with horrific results. It was a generally fun outing for the two of them.

At the same time, Linda was dealing with her feelings about being in the loop of the celestial people and deciding it was a pain in the ass that ultimately made her feel not only self-centered but small and frightened. The resulting conversation brought her and Amenadiel closer. Good stuff.

7. Not So Best Episode

Lucifer Season 3 Episode 6, "Vegas with Some Radish," is not an episode I remember, nor is it one I'm likely to watch again. Other than surprise at Ella's toned abs and dance skills and her ability to dress up nicely, it was nothing other than an opportunity for Lucifer and Ella to show off their Broadway skills. It felt utterly pointless overall especially because I hate Vegas Reviews. Blech.

8. Biggst Surprise

Linda's husband went through a lot of crap in relation to her snogging Lucifer and was always right in our periphery, but we never even knew it! That's a shocker. His insane concern over Linda's wellbeing took him and an investigation into some pretty strange places, but it was a decent wrap-up for viewers culminating in a beautiful whiteboard of the seasons to date with everything up to Pierce's arrival. Too bad he couldn't have stayed around a little longer because his mind could have really been blown if he'd met, you know, CAIN.

9. Did NOT See This Coming!

The Sinnerman reveal was right under our noses the entire time and hidden beautifully. Cain killed his brother. The Sinnerman killed Pierce's brother. The Sinnerman is Pierce. Pierce is Cain. Cain was sentenced to walk the earth as an immortal for the sin of killing Abel. Mindblowing reveal that will hopefully only continue on that path when we discover why he's hunted down Lucifer and how all of the straggling pieces fit into the puzzle.

10. Outstanding Mystery

Where is Lucifer's devil face and why are his wings growing back? Is it God who is trying to teach him a lesson his son refuses to learn through other means? Is it a simple lesson like the one Lucifer missed trying to be the coolest guy in LA or one too difficult for any of us to understand? Or is it not God at all? Cain has no supernatural powers other than being immortal, does he? So many questions for this mystery, but I'm OK with it not being solved yet. In due time.

11. Why Lucifer Would be Charged with Sexual Harassment in a NY Minute

Juggling funbags lucifer s3e7

Dan: Our victim's name is Poppy Parker. She owns an organic cosmetics line, sort of a local celebrity for all natural skin care.
Chloe: And, uh, what are all these?
Lucifer: These are boobs! Yes! I'd know them anywhere.
Chloe: Please. Don't. Juggle. The evidence, Lucifer. But, it's OK if he does because they've already been processed.
Lucifer: They're called fun bags for a reason!

Dan: Our victim's name is Poppy Parker. She owns an organic cosmetics line, sort of a local celebrity for all natural skin care. Chloe:...

12. Odds On Favorite for Ethereal Creature

Everyone has thought for a while Ella has to be something otherworldly, but her antics with Charlotte and her inability to sniff out something off with Pierce (other than having a massive crush on him) had edged her out of the running. On the other hand, Trixie continues to work her magic on everyone. When left in a room with Charlotte, she not only had the woman's hair in the same style as the little girl in short order, but even managed to convince her to reach out to her children. If the union between Chloe's parents was blessed in some way, her daughter seems to have caught the spark!

13. Best Friendship Potential

There is so much potential for a killer friendship between Charlotte and Ella, especially because Ella was initially so frightened of Charlotte. When Ella tried to skate from every room Charlotte was entering, she was becoming a different person merely because of Charlotte's presence. Some of the very best friendships start in that capacity, and I think Charlotte and Ella are the next Linda and Maze.

14. More Supernatural Please

Linda may think it sucks to be a celestial insider, but I'd like more goods on all of it myself. Aside from the mystery, aren't there other celestial beings out there? Sure, we just got Cain on a silver platter, but we need more of the life of Lucifer, Amenadiel, and Maze ESPECIALLY if the determination is to keep Chloe and Dan out of the loop. If Lucifer is going to continue with a case-of-the-week format, the only way to do that is to make things as difficult for them weekly as possible. And right now, they want for nothing. It makes cases kind of boring.

15. Overall Grade -- B

It can never be said Lucifer isn't entertaining. What can be said is the storylines we once loved have lost their mojo. Most specifically, anything related to Chloe and Lucifer appears to be gone. To be honest, I wasn't initially interested in a love story at the center of Lucifer, but the story was progressing in that direction until it was just dropped like a hot potato. It's hard to remember why it was dropped or why the two are so far out of each other's orbits.

Right now, the series needs to determine if we're to have a thing with them going forward or not. Half-assing it isn't in the cards. She doesn't need to be in the loop, but forgetting she's not isn't fun, either. If the play is she's not in the loop, let's make that uncomfortable. And get Chloe a new man to compete with Lucifers harlots. Since they've fallen from each other's orbit, something is missing.

Always continue with the comedic aspects while diving headfirst into the unexpected emotional twists for all involved. And play with different pairings, as you never know what you'll come up with. See all previous slides for evidence!

Lucifer Quotes

Cop: Are you trying to bribe me, sir?
Lucifer: Yes, of course.

Amenadiel: You are a mockery of everything divine.
Lucifer: Thank you. Thank you, but lately I've been thinking. Do you think I'm the Devil because I'm inherently evil, or just because dear ol' dad decided I was?
