There's no end in sight for Van Helsing.
According to Deadline, Syfy has gifted the series with an early Christmas gift in the form of a formal third season renewal.
The pickup is for another 13 episodes and production is slated to begin in February 2018.
The series is set in a futuristic world that is controlled by vampires. Vanessa, a descendant of Abraham Van Helsing, leads the charge to restore order with a group of resistance fighters.
On Van Helsing Season 1, Vanessa awakened from a three-year coma after her supposed death and was not prepared by the world she encountered, but she had a natural flair for fighting and has proved integral in the fight to take some of the vampires down.
Kelly Overton (All My Children) leads the cast which boasts the likes of Jonathan Scarfe (ER), Christopher Heyerdahl (True Blood), David Cubitt (Bates Motel), Vincent Gale (Eureka) and Rukiya Bernard (Supernatural).
“I couldn’t be happier to learn that Syfy has renewed Van Helsing for a Season 3—it has been a wonderful journey thus far, but we have much more of the ‘Van Helsing’ saga to tell before we’re through,” said showrunner Neil LaBute.
“It’s great to be working with Syfy on this project again, along with Chad and Mike at Nomadic and all the others at Dynamic and Echo Lake as well.
"The writing team has some amazing adventures planned for our cast and a few new surprises as well—expect blood to be spilled and characters to die screaming while the fate of humanity slips closer and closer to the edge of true chaos and utter darkness.”
Van Helsing Season 2 is averaging 0.4 million viewers and a 0.1 rating among adults 18-49. Its current season is scheduled to conclude January 4, and it is expected to return next fall.
