Scandal is concluding after seven years in April, and that means the talented cast is free to plot their follow-up roles on the small screen.
Joe Morton is the latest cast member to jump from the sudsy political thriller to one of the many pilots in the works.
Morton has been cast opposite Brandon Hall on the CBS pilot, God Friended Me. He will take on the series regular role of Reverend Arthur Finer, a thoughtful and creative man who has a son named Miles.
Arthur has been the reverend of Trinity Church for the past 25 years. While he doesn't agree with his son's firm rejection of his faith, he wants him back in his life.
Suraj Sharma and Javicia Leslie are also tapped to appear in the pilot which hails from Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. TV.
Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt will pen the script, and the project will be directed by Marcos Siega, who will also executive produce.
Morton has appeared on ABC's Scandal since 2012. He was initially a recurring player but was upped to a series regular ahead of Scandal Season 5.
He plays Rowan Pope, the father of Kerry Washington's Olivia. Production on Scandal is due to wrap in the coming weeks, and the show will end for good on April 19.
We use the term "for good" lightly because every show seems to have a reboot in the works these days.
Morton's fellow Scandal co-star Scott Foley is also attached to a new series. He is set to take on the lead role in ABC's Whiskey Cavalier, a CIA based drama that will also star The Walking Dead's Lauren Cohan.
