A medical series that makes it a mission to hold a mirror to the ugly parts of the field and society will inevitably have to tackle a far too common issue: homeless patients.

On The Resident Season 1 Episode 8, a homeless woman is injured on the scene and needs medical attention. Unfortunately, she's a drain on the system and no way money-conscious Bell (or Claire) would want more energy than necessary put into someone who can't pay.

Chastain Memorial must not have a free-clinic within sight because Bell utters the words that make anyone with half a heart's stomach turn: 'Street her."

Bell wants to kick this patient out on the street even though he's not supposed to do that, and Nic has to remind Conrad that he isn't the only one in the hospital who doesn't play by the rules.

It's illegal and unethical for hospitals to turn away patients, but patient dumping is, unfortunately, a very common occurrence. It also primarily affects homeless and/or mentally ill individuals, and it's been gaining notoriety and media attention recently.

A show like The Resident should have no problem taking on this issue and shining a spotlight on the vile practice.

Conrad will not take well to this gross display of inhumanity, but it appears as though Devon, Nic, and Mina will be in his corner too. They really are becoming the Dream Team, aren't they?

Also, what's the fancy shindig the hospital is throwing that has Bell looking devilishly handsome in a suit and Mina looking stunning in a dress that she probably made herself?
