When The Good Doctor returns for Season 2 on ABC there will be some major changes in store.
According to Deadline, Chuku Modu is out of the medical drama, and will not appear in any episodes of the new season.
The news is unsurprising when you consider his character, Dr. Jared Kalu's journey throughout The Good Doctor Season 1.
At one point, he was fired from his job after punching a doctor who was sexually harassing his girlfriend. However, he blackmailed his way back into the hospital.
But his character's future was left up in the air when he was given a new job as a surgeon in Colorado.
We think it's fair to say that the character was polarizing with fans, and there was really no way of redeeming him after everything that transpired.
While one series regular is out of the series, the report also states that four recurring actors have been promoted to full-fledged series regulars ahead of Season 2.
Will Yun Lee (who plays Dr. Alex Park), Fiona Gubelmann (Dr. Morgan Reznick), Christina Chang (Dr. Audrey Lim), and Paige Spara (Lea) are the lucky actors who will be getting a more significant presence on-screen.
The Good Doctor has been a roaring success for ABC ever since it debuted back in September. The Good Doctor Season 1 averaged 9.8 million viewers and a 1.8 rating in live + same day ratings.
The series played well on the DVR front with gains of almost 140 percent in the demo. When it first launched, reviews were mixed, but it has emerged as a force to be reckoned with as far as the ratings are concerned.
