Chicago Med Season 3 Episode 19 Review: Crisis of Confidence

at .

A serial killer? Did you see that coming?

We may have established that Robert's a psychopath, but the possibility that he left a trail of destruction that extended beyond failed marriages and burnt bridges in academia was shocking.

But that was just one of many surprises on Chicago Med Season 3 Episode 19.

Who Stole the Pain Killers? - Chicago Med

Granted, Dr. Charles turn at playing detective was the most outrageous plot. Almost as outrageous as the fact that he went about his investigation so ham-handedly.

Daniel might not be a police investigator and he may have some emotional involvement that he's not willing to cop to, but he's not an idiot. Nor is he unfamiliar with the justice system and what's admissible in court.

So why the hell is he driving up to Madison all on his own?

I get that the local police department he reached out to was looking at this as a cold case. And I get that all the cases were investigated. But they were all investigated as isolated incidences.

He clearly needed to call the FBI, not individual police departments.

I also would have recommended gloves on the off chance that the whole thing is some twisted plot dreamt up by Robert to discredit the good doctor.

Friendly Warning - Chicago Med Season 3 Episode 19

Because we still don't know who slid that envelope under the door. Yes, Haywood is bedridden, but he can turn on the charm when he wants to. It's not a stretch that he could have had a nurse or someone deliver the file.

Why else would whomever left the mystery manila envelope have dropped it with Daniel and not the authorities?

Maybe it wasn't Robert. Maybe it was one of his other ex-wives, or a former student who had a bad feeling, or even one of those lay-people who investigates cold cases for fun.

Jay: Well, I'm glad you didn't screw things up 'cause you can be a real knucklehead.
Will: What's that supposed to mean?!

The point is that Daniel shouldn't just accept the information without question or suspicion. And he should definitely go to the cops.

Maybe to Jay Halstead or literally anybody in the Intelligence unit. What a missed opportunity for a crossover moment.

Jay seemed pretty busy hassling his brother about his love life though.

In Sync - Chicago Med Season 3 Episode 19

Nat and Will do seem to be on better footing with each other, but I'm personally of the opinion that Will is jumping the gun asking for that ring.

At least he would if this was the real world or if Med had a better grasp on relationships, period.

I may not like it, but I also don't foresee Natalie giving Will a flat out no when he finally pops the question.

Nope, #Manstead has been pushed down our throats with unrelenting glee from the get-go, so if she doesn't say yes it'll only be because her not answering makes for a good cliffhanger.

The only thing better for high Chicago Med Season 4 Episode 1 ratings would be if the cliffhanger involved somebody maybe dying.

Somebody important.

Emily: She put you up to this, didn't she? Your uptight narc of a girlfriend? You know, all the two of you have done since I moved in is hover around, waiting for me to make a mistake.
Ethan: That's not true.
Emily: Yeah, all my life it's been like this. You know, I've had it.

Because Emily looks like she might be in some danger soon.

I have to say, I was really hoping that the drug thief was Nurse Doris. But then she's too good at her job, even if she is a bitch.

Here's hoping that no matter the outcome of the missing Percocet, Emily sticks around. Her relationship with Ethan is way more interesting than any of the other sibling relationship in the 'verse.

When it comes to my sister, I'm so used to assuming the worst. I never should have accused her of stealing those drugs.

Ethan

It'll be interesting to see how April and Ethan's relationship comes out of this dilemma.

It is really weird how April turned on Emily so quickly after pushing Ethan to trust her for so long. Shouldn't she be preaching understanding and redemption even if she does think Emily is the thief?

But this isn't the only relationship that might be falling apart.

Connor: Keep your chin up, you'll figure it out.
Ava: You know, you don't have to do that.
Connor: What?
Ava: Act like you don't enjoy seeing me on the hot seat. Go ahead and buy it. If I were in your position, I would.

Okay, so we don't know that Connor and Ava are, in fact, currently a thing. They banged, they fought, they admitted they liked each other...but nothing explicit since then. Just work, work, work.

I do like that even though they've admitted that they have feelings for one another, they're still (respectfully) competitive. They have vastly different approaches, but they have each other's backs in the OR.

But I'm not sure how Ava will take Connor's sudden self-doubt. I imagine she'd find that unappealing, but is she invested enough in him to bolster him back up?

Humility - Chicago Med Season 3 Episode 19

By the looks of Chicago Med Season 3 Episode 20 ("The Tipping Point"), she does a really good job of restoring his ego or he doesn't need her help.

Because Connor is definitely going to be in that separation surgery.

As exciting and massive as that surgery is, I'm most looking forward to Ethan finding Emily in the homeless camp. How did she get there from Vegas? Will they repair their relationship in time?

And of course I need to know if Sarah's father is a serial killer. Fingers crossed that question isn't answered by him pulling a scalpel or something on his daughter.
