It came down to the wire, but Criminal Minds has been renewed!
CBS skipped the Black Friday purge and opted instead to share their news on Saturday.
There are no details about the renewal, but it does come in conjunction with the renewals of Man With a Plan, Instinct, and Life in Pieces, as well as the cancellations of Scorpion and Superior Donuts.
The renewal means Criminal Minds will be celebrating its 300th episode with the upcoming season premiere.
That's a huge achievement and one that has come amidst many casting changes and with a lot of worry about what might come next for the series.
Criminal Minds Season 13 surprised everyone by proving casting changes can have terrific results.
Finally, the formula was mastered and each and every character in the ensemble began to shine with successful results.
Joe Mantegna stars as David Rossi, along with Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss, Matthew Gray Gubler as Dr. Spencer Reid, A.J. Cook as Jennifer “JJ” Jareau, Aisha Tyler as Dr. Tara Lewis, Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia, Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvez and Daniel Henney as Matt Simmons.
After the end of Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Henney coming on board was the last piece to the puzzle. He was already familiar with the tone of the series, had crossed over to the mothership several times and fit in smoothly upon his arrival.
The lack of focus on a new team member helped the most recent season settle into a more comfortable routine.
The new 10 pm time period and delayed viewing worked in favor of the series, as well. Rating rose, but I'm still giving some of that to the team and time past from the drama of losing beloved members.
Still, it did come down to the wire and there are no details about how long the series will remain on the schedule or when it will premiere.
The important 300th episode will be achieved and from there it's all up in the air.
We'll get all of those details at the upfronts presentation shortly.
What do you think about the renewal?
Are you excited to find out what kind of season lies ahead for the beloved drama? Are you hoping for a short, 13-episode final season or a full season with hopes for more?
