The family is back together, but how long will it last?
On The Originals Season 5 Episode 8, the family started the process of putting the past behind them, but will they be able to keep it together before the new prophecy hits?
Below, TV Fanatics Alyssa Whittington, Lizzy Buczak and Justin Carreiro discuss Elijah's predicament, Kol's honest words and so much more.
Elijah has his memories back. React!
Alyssa: FINALLY. Seriously, it took way too long for this to happen. But the way it happened? Absolutely heartbreaking. I felt the pain he endured.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't tear up. Daniel Gillies did a superb job in that scene, and it was beautifully shot. The agony he felt knowing that Hayley was dead... Wow.
Lizzy: Initially, I wanted Elijah to remember everything, but after Hayley's death, it crossed my mind that maybe he'd be better off just not knowing.
The way it happened was soul-crushing and hearing him scream out in agony broke my heart. There is no way he's going to come back from this or forgive himself.
Justin: Yay! He finally got his memories. Sure, it was a terrible reason why he got the memories back, and now he has to live with the heartbreak, but he needed his memories. This plot had been pushed for far too long.
What did you think of the siblings being together?
Alyssa: I think it's a great step toward a brighter future for them. They've been through so much. I really am rooting for a happy ending for everyone.
Lizzy: Considering that Kol and Rebekah are occasional guest stars, it was great to see them all together in one room.
They needed to address the dysfunction and admit that they are responsible for each other's pain to be able to move on and let go. Hayley is proof that they need to come together and support each other, not tear each other down.
Justin: For all the reasons why they needed to be separated, it was great seeing them back together again. We need more moments like this where they're open and honest with each other.
Were you surprised Freya was working with Hope?
Alyssa: Nope. I kind of suspected it after the first five minutes. Freya and Hope are close and extremely powerful witches. It would make sense that Freya would help her grieving niece.
Lizzy: A little bit. I was more surprised that Freya would do something behind Klaus' back. Especially something this risky. But it just shows you that they are completely out of options.
Justin: Not even a little. They're pretty close, and Freya would be there for her niece if she needed help.
What are your thoughts on Kol saying the family makes each other miserable?
Alyssa: Kol has never been one of my favorites, but he had a good point; however, I believe that was only a mere look into his real emotions for his family, either good or bad.
The entire Mikaelson crew needs to hash it out. It's been a thousand years in the making.
Lizzy: Well, he has a point. There is a lot of love but also, a lot of animosity. They blame each other for the hurt that's been inflicted upon them.
It was a key moment for them to finally take a step back and realize that he had a point and they can't continue on this way without destroying everything else that's good.
Justin: I agree with the others. Kol had a point. After seasons of watching the Mikaelsons fight, betray, kill, and incapacitate each other, their basic instinct is to think selfishly and turn on each other.
Unless they're willing to truly let go of the past and love each other, they will only make each other miserable in the end.
What did you think of the flashbacks?
Alyssa: My heart... my poor Haylijah heart. Why did I have to live through that again???
Lizzy: It actually gave me some closure in regards to Hayley's death. I wasn't a huge fan of her funeral scenes but seeing everyone remember her and Elijah finally pay his respects was a beautiful touch. Also, can you believe it has been 15 YEARS?!
Justin: It was a sweet and touching goodbye. Hayley was an important character on The Originals, so it made sense to experience more of the grief to say our farewells.
