The Walking Dead is likely losing more than one series regular during the show's upcoming ninth season, but one of them will deal the biggest blow to the show.

According to multiple reports, leading man, Andrew Lincoln will depart just halfway through The Walking Dead Season 9.

Lincoln's former co-star, Chandler Riggs, has weighed in on the stunning news and admits that it "surprised" him.

“Of course, yeah,” he said on Good Day Sacramento late last week.

“I mean, Andy has been on the show for so long and he’s had to leave his family every single year, so I was surprised, but at the same time, it’s gonna be good for him to get back to his family and raise his kids."

Chandler appeared on The Walking Dead from 2010-18 as the son of Lincoln's Rick Grimes. He recently exited the series in a storyline that found him shooting himself after being bitten by a walker.

While fans flipped out upon learning about Carl's demise, it's only going to get worse when Rick is inevitably killed off during the new season, which will likely debut in October.

Lincoln's departure has yet to be confirmed, but the recent news about Jon Bernthal returning seems like it will bring Rick's storyline full circle. If you watch The Walking Dead online, you know that Rick killed Shane (Bernthal) earlier in the show's run.

We think it's fair to assume that there will be a lot of flashbacks as we say goodbye to Rick.

Lauren Cohan is also expected to be exiting shortly because her ABC drama, Whiskey Cavalier landed a series order.
