Last Man Standing is headed back to TV later this year, but it will be with some new faces.
Instead of writing the characters out, they will be recast, and casting is currently underway to replace them ahead of the show's fall return.
Per the report, Tim Allen, Nancy Travis (Vanessa), Amanda Fuller (Kristin), Jonathan Adams (Chuck), Christoph Sanders (Kyle), Jordan Masterson (Ryan) and Hector Elizondo (Ed) have all closed deals to appear in the new season.
Last Man Standing last aired in March 2017. It was canceled shortly after by ABC, so it makes sense that some of the cast members have moved on.
It is always difficult to bring a full cast back together when cast options expire, and given how long the show has been out of production, it makes sense that there will be some casting changes.
Fox confirmed earlier this year that it had revived the series after it was canceled by ABC one year earlier.
“Last Man Standing ended too soon, and the outcry from the fans has been deafening,” Fox TV chairmen and CEOs Gary Newman and Dana Walden said in a statement at the time.
“We’ve wanted to put the show back together since its final taping a year ago, and Tim never gave up hope, either. Thanks to its millions of devoted viewers and the irrepressible Tim Allen, we haven’t seen the last of Last Man Standing.”
The revival was a no-brainer when you consider the fact that Roseanne returned to the air with bumper ratings, ultimately emerging as one of the top shows on TV.
Last Man Standing will join Fox's Friday line-up in the fall, but it will not be remaining in that slot if it is renewed for another season. Fox recently snapped up the rights to WWE SmackDown.
That deal will be effective from October 2019.
